| Can you believe that it is July already? I remember as a child that summer meant three whole months off from school and plans for vacations and weeks with grandparents. What happened? Now school is out only six to eight weeks and with baseball for every sex and age and , oh yes - grass that seems to grow in overdrive; who can find time to go off on family vacations? The more modern and busy our lives become the less time | ![]() |
| we seem to have to enjoy any "time off". It is also harder to find time to spend with God and even harder to be the witness to the world we
are commissioned to be. We need to remember that the Bible says we are to abide with and in God, which is continual. There is no time off from the relationship He desires with us. He never goes on vacation or has the day off. He is always right by our side , we just need to talk to Him about ever facet of our daily lives.
Summer provides us with new areas of witness that we must be aware of, like those many ballgames that put us with people that we only see in the summer. If you are lucky enough to go on a vacation there are tons of people you may have only one chance to witness to by your attitude and actions. There's never an inappropriate place to bring up the name of Jesus Christ. It's easy to adopt the mind-set that witnessing belongs in a certain place at a certain time, but the Bible tells us we are to make the most of every opportunity. (Ephesians 5:16). That may be when you're at lunch with a co-worker, the waitress, the person next to you in line at an amusement park, the person on the bench at a ballgame or everybody in hearing distance when the umpire makes a bad call. Just be alert to opportunities to show/share Jesus. Even if you don't have time to make a full-blown gospel presentation, you can at least plant some seeds about the reason you are who you are in Christ. De Colores! Barbara |

The Burning Bush
When Moses, musing in the desert, found The thorn bush spiking up from the hot ground, And saw the branches, on a sudden, bear The crackling yellow barberries of fire, He searched his learning and imagination For any logical, neat explanation, And turned to go, but turned again and stayed, And faced the fire and knew it for his God. I too have seen the briar alight like coal, The love that burns, the flesh that's ever whole And many times have turned and left it there, Saying: "It's prophecy - but metaphor". But stinging tongues like John the Baptist shout: "That this is metaphor is no way out. It's dogma too, or you make God a liar; The bush is still a bush, and fire is fire." Norman Nicholson |
