About Your Fourth Day: As
participants conclude their Walk to Emmaus weekends, they are introduced to
the concept of the Fourth Day -- a symbol of the days of Christian
pilgrimage that follow the three-day Emmaus experience. The Walk to Emmaus
is a unique opportunity to reflect on one's faith journey and make a deeper
commitment to Christ.
Piety: Giving our Hearts to Christ. The Emmaus group reunion is a small accountability group of two to six persons who have usually participated in the three-day Walk to Emmaus and who want to continue their pursuit of a life lived wholly in the grace of God.
Study: Giving our Minds to Christ. A mature Christian is an informed Christian -- informed about the mind and heart of God by knowing scripture. A Christian knows about the world and its needs and works toward gaining the best insights on how to alleviate the hurting world's agonies.
Action: Giving our Hands to Christ. Reunion groups provide a natural launching pad for mission in the community. Reunion groups are also a support base for acts of agape for Emmaus weekends. Shared engagement in service to others deepens friendships and opens up avenues for Christian action.
About Servant/Leadership: The Emmaus movement does not exist primarily for the weekend Walks. Its purposes are to deepen the faith of individuals, to increase the faith of congregations, and to bring Christianity to the world. Emmaus gives pilgrims the skills needed for leadership and invites them to make the commitment needed to build up the church for the sake of Jesus Christ. The questions asked at the closing - "What has this weekend meant to you?" and "What are you going to do with it?" -- help pilgrims begin to comprehend the kind of servant leadership that God may require of them in the future.
Deadline for newsletter information is the Gathering each month, bulk rate mail-outs and web site updates are the following week.
If you know of any Albemarle Emmaus, Chrysalis or Kairos
community members without e-mail not already getting a snail mail
newsletter, have them contact any Board member, or call Philip S. Ruckle
Jr. in Manteo (252-473-1301).
Check the calendar for application deadlines. Cadre positions help train
team members for future leadership. To serve as Lay Director an individual
must have served as Table Leader, Head Cha and Assistant Lay Director, but
there are other team positions that come before filling a Cadre position .
. . and all are important.
There were more than a dozen men's names and almost three dozen women's
names to be carried over to the next walks. If your Pilgrim's application
is not already in they may have to wait another walk. Pilgrim's (and your
team) applications are considered in the order submitted. First in first
out. Think about that.
If you want to help save AE money, visit our web site for your newsletter each month & send a message to asking to be removed from the snail-mail list. Each month's newsletter may be viewed and printed in color from your Albemarle Emmaus web site at www.albemarleemmaus.org.
Albemarle Emmaus prints and mails an average of more than 700 newsletters each month. As our community grows our newsletter costs increase. The offering at each gathering, which is not always enough, is used to offset printing and postage expenses.
