As Christmas draws near I am reminded of the story of "The Manger Was Empty". This story is about a Pastor that arrived at his church early on Christmas morning to make sure everything was set up for this very special service. He paused beside the nativity scene to say a prayer of thanksgiving. With a gasp he realized that the manger was empty. The baby Jesus was missing. The Pastor searched the church and then called the Assistant Pastor, but still the baby Jesus could not be found. The Pastor reported the theft to the congregation that assembled that morning. "The figure of the Christ child must be returned before this Christmas Day is over," he pleaded. Still, the manger remained empty through the day. Toward the end of the day and with a heavy heart, the Pastor took a walk through the neighborhood. He saw one of the youngest members of the church, a six year old boy named Tommy. Bundled shabbily against the cold, Tommy trudged up the sidewalk, proudly pulling behind him a toy express wagon. The Pastor hurried up so he could wish Tommy a Merry Christmas. As he drew near he saw that the wagon was not empty. The baby Jesus now wrapped and blanketed, but not quite hidden, lay in the wagon. The Pastor crouched down beside Tommy, his face grim and disappointed. Tommy was just a little boy, but he was still old enough to understand that stealing was very wrong. He made this very clear to Tommy while the boy stood with eyes filling with tears. "But Pastor," Tommy said, "I didn't steal Jesus. It wasn't like that at all. It's just that I've been asking Him for a red wagon as a Christmas present for a long time . . . . I promised Him that when I got it I'd take Him out for the first ride." Let us, like Tommy, put Jesus first in our lives this Christmas and the coming year. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. |

Check that email
As many email users know, Albemarle Emmaus uses
albemarle_emmaus
@
hotmail.com
as a contact resource for the local Emmaus community and for persons outside the Albemarle area to request information on walks, agape or other area Emmaus related information. That address may be indexed in you email program under Carla Lamb's name, although Carla does not handle the email any more. When you communicate with friends and family by email please do not use this email address to forward humorous, spiritual, or otherwise up-lifting stories. We also do not need virus warnings, chain letters, offers for free Disney vacations, the newest 500 ways to drive your roommates crazy, or the Neiman Marcus cookie recipe. We're already getting as many as 50 of these messages a day from outside the AE community. If you are sending "sign-up lists" and other such mail you're adding to the volume of mail that must be sifted to find prayer vigil and information requests. For most of these "junk" messages we invoke a filter option that block all email from that address. If you fit that category, once blocked you will no longer be able to sign up for prayer vigils by email without changing email addresses. Just remember, there is no bill pending before Congress that will allow long distance companies to charge you for long distance when using the Internet, nor for the Post Office to "tax" e-mails. Most of this stuff is a hoax and adds hours to the time needed to sort through legitimate information requests and prayer vigil requests. So when you get ready to send out that email, make sure it is one intended specifically for However, please do use for prayer requests that did not make it onto the signup list at each gathering. We can add those requests to the web site even after the paper newsletter has been printed and mailed. You can also use if you need AE, Chrysalis or Kairos information and do not know where to get the answer. If there's something missing on the web site, like or your and you want to add your information, send us a message at @ hotmail-dot-com, or if you do not have email, send a snail mail note to Albemarle Emmaus, Post Office Box 1198, Edenton, North Carolina 27932, and we will try to help you. thanx :o)

YOU can help AE save money
Many have responded to our efforts at cutting back on postage costs. However, our Albemarle Emmaus mailing list continues to grow with more than 200 names added each year. If you receive one of our paper newsletter mailings and view or print a copy from the web site, think about helping save AE money. A simple
will send your request for email notice each time a newsletter is posted to the AE web site, about one week after each Gathering. Include in your message your name and mailing address & ask to be removed from the snail-mail list . . . it's that simple. . . . And you'll probably see the newsletter on the web before a paper copy makes it to your mailbox.
