There are now less than 50 days until the next Kairos Weekend. PCI #7 starts May 1 at the Pasquotank County Correctional Center. That means we need cookies, so start your ovens now.

Also, if you have not yet signed one of the PCI #7 prayer sheets we circulated during a gathering you can still be counted as a prayer warrior during the weekend of May 1 - 4, 2003, by signing up here.

Unlike Emmaus prayer vigils, where you sign up to pray for specific times on specific days, Kairos prayers can be anytime, as many times, or for as long or short as you think necessary, during the Kairos weekend.

Names entered on Kairos Prayer Sheets are cut into individual strips and made into a chain of links that circle the gym during a Kairos weekend.

We can do the same thing for names entered on the web site prayer vigil page for PCI #7 by printing those names on paper to be included in the prayer vigil chain. Our goal is to have enough names to build that chain with links that circle the entire gym.

If you have not been able to sign up at a Gathering you can still use our web site to sign up. Include just your first name, or as much of your name as you feel comfortable having on the prayer chain. Residents and team members look at the chain as it grows during a Kairos weekend. Residents are impressed by the awesome power of prayer and the number of those prayer warriors praying during their Kairos weekend.

Have not signed up to team and could not get a team application at a Gathering? There's a team application included on the February newsletter site.

Not sure what Kairos is all about, try attending a closing ceremony to take a look.

Just remember, space is limited, so complete and mail your application today.

Subject:   25th Celebration

De Colores,

Greetings. This is Sherry Elliott, member of the planning team for the upcoming Emmaus 25th Anniversary Celebration. I hope everyone is staying warm and dry during these final days of winter. We are chilled to the bone in Nashville, so spending a few hot July days with 3 or 4 thousand of our closest friends sounds wonderful. I know there is a burning faith in the hearts of Emmaus pilgrims around the world.

This is the first in a series of notes to keep you informed about the Celebration. You are receiving this note because you have been designated as the community contact person for the Celebration. Please know your service is greatly appreciated.

EARLY BIRD GROUP DISCOUNTS ENDS APRIL 1

Remember the group early bird discount ends on April 1. Send in your packets of 12 or more registrations to get the best price of $150 per person. This must be done in groups of 12 and more, or the group discount will not apply.

ON-LINE REGISTRATION

You can register for the 25th Anniversary Celebration on-line. Hotel reservations are a separate step and can be completed on-line too. For event registration or hotel needs, click through to: www.itraveltime.com/emmaus.htm.

MORE BROCHURES, ANYONE?

If you need more Celebration brochures, we have plenty. Just reply back to this email and request additional copies. I would be delighted to send you more. Be sure to stuff one in every new pilgrim's packet this spring.

TRAVEL DISCOUNTS

Traveltime Services, our conference planner, has arranged for special travel discounts to Nashville. They've contracted with several airline carriers such as Delta and American for reduced fares. If you are flying, take advantage of Traveltime's assistance. They can be of great service and the money you save will more than cover the fee for their service.

Several communities have called about chartering a bus. Traveltime can make these arrangements for your group too. You can reach Traveltime at 1-877-741-2782.

AGAPE GIFTS

Pilgrims, reunion groups, and/or communities are welcome to bring agape to the Celebration. We have an Agape Chairperson for the Convention and there will be plenty of opportunities (such as four meals together) to share these gifts of love.

RESOURCE CENTER

Know anyone who would like to have a display booth at the Celebration? Information packets will be sent shortly. Tell interested persons to email me to request a packet. The Resource Center will be a high-traffic area offering a wide-range of activities such as an open-mic stage, an Agape area where folks can relax and make agape gifts, a lounge area for rest and fellowship, book signings, and the exhibitors. Cokesbury has promised to bring a 5,000 square foot bookstore! And last month, I heard from someone who plans to showcase rainbow boas! You will have to stand in line behind me for one of these.

PASS IT ON

You are encouraged to share this note with others in your community. You can adapt it and forward it on to others. If you have any questions, please call or email us. We are here to help. Please continue to promote the Celebration through email, newsletters, and other channels of communication. We want to see a strong representation from each community. If you have an estimated guess on how many will be coming from your group, hit the reply button and let us know.

Blessings,

Sherry Elliott

Subject: Meeting Jesus on the Road to Emmaus
Date: Thu, 6 Mar 2003 10:02:57 -0500

I'm an ordained Southern Baptist minister in Louisville and do some writing for an online publication.

I am considering compiling and editing a series of stories involving the testimonies of people who have been on a Walk to Emmaus. I'm contacting all of the Emmaus contacts in the southeastern US listed on the Upper Room site to see if you might have a story to share, or know of someone who should share their story.

My current thought is that the book, Meeting Jesus on the Road to Emmaus, will loosely follow the outline and content of the talks given on an Emmaus Weekend. These stories have had such a profound impact on people as they are told, why not share them with a larger audience?

I want to make it clear that I have not presented this idea to the Upper Room yet. I would like to have some edited stories in hand before I present the. Please prayerfully consider whether you would like to be a part of this endeavor.

If you have questions about the book, submitting your personal story, or would like to find out more about this idea, please email me at emmaus_guy@bellsouth.net, an email address that I have created just for this project, or you may contact me during the day at (502) 231-9240.

A NOTE FROM OUR LAY DIRECTOR

Let me once again welcome our new members to the Albemarle Emmaus Community. This is your community. When I think of the walk to Emmaus I am reminded of Romans 12. Paul tells us to present our bodies as a living and holy sacrifice to God and do not be conformed to this world. Paul also says that God has allotted each one with gifts. Let each one of us exercise our gifts accordingly. I pray that everyone will read Romans 12 and then use their gift to make their church a better place to worship and praise God.

Yours in Christ,

S.C. Basnight

Corrections and Web Info:
  1. Prayer Concerns   —   Please be careful about the information you place on our list of prayer concerns. Not everyone wants everything said about their problems. We had a request that one name be removed from our list because it was included without permission and they had more people prying into their life than praying for their problem.

  2. Prayer Vigils   —   Please try to fill vacant Prayer Vigil times before doubling up on other times.

  3. Sponsors   —   Please remember that as a sponsor, one important responsability is to have your Pilgrim or Caterpillar at the 4-H Center on time.

  4. Angelfire?   —   Ever wondered why we have an "Angelfire"logo on the Albemarle Emmaus Web Site?
Angelfire, a division of Lycos, is the company that (currently) hosts our web site. They offer a free place to physically put our site on the Internet where you can find it.     In return they make money from advertisers by flashing those annoying ads on your screen.     We have an offer from someone in the AE community to host our site without ads. We are (as you read this) working on the details of getting our site off Angelfire and onto the new site.     However, the change is expected to take from a few days to a few weeks.

If you need a paper copy of each month's newsletter we will send one, however, as our Albemarle Emmaus/Chrysalis mailing list continues to grow so grow the cost involved. We send out 700 copies each month about one week after each Gathering and it takes all week to print, sort, address and mail them. If you would like to save AE money think about dropping your "snail mail" copy & request an email notice each time a newsletter is posted to the AE web site. A simple will start your request. Include in your message your name and mailing address & ask to be removed from the snail-mail list   .   .   .   it's that simple.   .   .   .   And you'll probably see the newsletter on the web before a paper copy makes it to your mailbox.
