Dear Bob,
It is my understanding that the KAIROS # 7 weekend activity was a success. I know an event of this magnitude requires help from many people. Please convey our deepest appreciation to each member of the team and others who assisted you in the logistics and coordination of this special weekend for the inmates of the Institution.

I look forward to working with you and the KAIROS team for many years to come and I pray that God's love and care be with you always. We always notice a significant change in those inmates who participate fully in a KAIROS weekend. My staff and I thank you for the positive changes that God makes in the lives of those you touch. Again, thank you and God bless you as you continue to encourage the lost to give their lives to Christ.

Sincerely,
Sutton signature

&   other thoughts
  1. Volunteers Needed   —   Tom & Christi Quance need volunteers to help set up Cale Retreat Center for our annual picnic. Also needed are volunteers to help run games and clean up. If available, call Tom & Christi at (252) 330-2611 or send an email to
  2. Prayer Vigils and Prayer Requests   —   Please remember to print clearly any prayer requests or names for the prayer vigils. We pass the sign-up sheets around at each Gathering and then spend several days trying to read what people scribble. Most people do write or print neatly, but some people test our cryptographic skills. Just remember: if we can't read it we can't print it.

  3. Errors   —   they show up all the time & when least expected

Lay Director's Thoughts

"Reflections"

In just a few short weeks, students, teachers, and other school employees will begin a "new" school year. There will be new clothes, book bags, book packs, computers, supplies, friends, schools, classes, subjects, buses, schedules, and on and on. This new school year will begin with lots of excitement, anxieties, hesitancies, and, yes, even some fears. Leapfrog to next May or June. The majority, in fact, a very high percentage, of students and school employees will have completed a very successful school year.

Parallel this example to the beginning of our new Albemarle Emmaus year. How much will each of us stretch or grow in our own personal spiritual walk, our individual spiritual journey this year? Albemarle Emmaus/Chrysalis is a body of individuals who have experienced a personal spiritual growth through participation in a "prayed-up" spiritual retreat. Personal growth is essential if our community is to grow spiritually.

Do you realize that we have completed twenty (20) Chrysalis flights and fifty-two (52) Emmaus walks totaling approximately 2400 hundred youth and adults who have experienced a closer walk with our Savior. WOW! WHAT A BLESSING!

I invite each of you to consider the following suggestions as we begin our new year. You are also encouraged to identify and/or to develop your own personal spiritual growth activities or priorities.
  1. Contact the lay director for your walk and share with him/her the joy in Christ you are continuing to experience since your walk.
  2. Contact your table leader and thank him/her for their spiritual guidance during your walk
  3. Contact your tablemates and share your Christian joys and spiritual growth with them.
  4. Plan a reunion with your tablemates at a gathering.
  5. If you are not regularly attending our gatherings, make this a priority. We miss you !
  6. Become involved in a Bible study in your local church. If you do not currently have a Bible study, begin one.
  7. Ask your pastor what you can do to strengthen your local church. Also let your pastor know how much you appreciate him/her.
  8. Pray that God will identify to you persons in your local church or community who would grow spiritually by participating in an Emmaus walk or a Chrysalis flight.
  9. Make a prayerful commitment to sharing individual personal agape with the pilgrim and caterpillars on their weekends instead of computer or copier generated agape.
  10. Pray about teaming or working "behind the scenes" on a flight or walk.
  11. Volunteer to work for our Albemarle & Chrysalis Community activities. Example: Annual picnic at Camp Cale on August 16.
  12. Pray ! Pray ! Pray ! for your local church, all churches, and the Albemarle Emmaus & Chrysalis Community.
Again I encourage you to develop your own priorities for your personal spiritual growth. Making a difference in our local churches and also in the Albemarle Emmaus & Chrysalis Community begins with each of us individually. I pray God's blessing for each of you.

      Love you !
      Pat
