A Free Gift
Please remember that your Albemarle Emmaus newsletter comes to you as a free gift, even though there are substantial printing, publishing, and postage expenses each month.   All newsletter expenses are covered entirely by the voluntary financial support of those attending monthly Gatherings.   That's why the plate is passed at each Gathering.   If you move and do not notify us of your address change the return postage adds to the monthly expenses of publishing this newsletter.

  1. May Day  . . . Again?   —   Our June 20 newsletter had an incorrect date on the cover  :-(  and we regret any problems this may have caused.   We were not trying to relive the past, it was a simple old fashion goof    ;o)
  2. Is your address label correct?   —   We would be more than happy to add (or delete) any address label names to bring your information up to date. Some address labels list only one family member when several have been on an Emmaus Walk or Chrysalis Flight. If a change is necessary, or desired, please let us know.

Lessons Learned From Noah's Ark  . . .
(source anonymous)
noah's ark
  1. Don't miss the boat.
  2. Remember that we are all in the same boat.
  3. Stay fit. When you're 600 years old you may be asked to do something really big.
  4. Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.
  5. Don't listen to critics, just get on with the job that needs to be done.
  6. Build your future carefully, on a good foundation, and on high ground.
  7. Follow a divine plan; on long journeys travel in pairs and enjoy the company of others.
  8. Everyone is important in the big scheme of things.
  9. In the midst of a storm don't get stressed, trust, be patient, and float a while.
  10. Speed isn't as important as the ability to ride the waves. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
  11. The Ark was built (and manned) by amateurs, the Titanic by professionals.
  12. No matter the storm, when you are with God there's always a rainbow waiting.

YOU'RE INVITED
PRAYING IN SOLITUDE AND COMMUNITY Seminar
September 8 - 11, 2003
Lake Junaluska, NC

Discover a deeper, more meaningful prayer life this fall with help from Upper Room author Martha Rowlett.

Join Rowlett as she leads the workshop PRAYING IN SOLITUDE AND COMMUNITY September 8 - 11, 2003, in the peaceful mountain setting of Lake Junaluska, NC.

Sessions include a look at theological assumptions about prayer and a review of the variety of forms of Christian prayer for both individuals and for communities. The daytime schedule and the evening vesper services provide time to experience multiple ways of praying. Suggestions for organizing prayer ministries in the local church will be shared.

Evening Vespers in the Lake Junaluska chapel will include a Prayer Vigil, a Taize service, and a healing service. Bishop Richard Looney will participate in the daytime discussion of intercessory prayer and will be the speaker at the evening service of healing. Members of the Lake Junaluska ministry staff will provide music for the event.

For more information, go to www.sejumc.org

Rowlett is author of:
RESPONDING TO GOD: A Guide to Daily Prayer. Paperback, 160 Pages.

PRAYING TOGETHER: Forming Prayer Ministries in Your Congregation. Paperback, 230 Pages.
