A NOTE FROM OUR COMMUNITY LAY DIRECTOR
On Sunday, October 19th, we welcomed the pilgrims of AE 54 to the Albemarle Emmaus Community just as we welcomed the pilgrims of AE 53 on Sunday, October 5th. The pilgrims were reminded that Emmaus is not a church, a denomination, or a secret closed Christian organization. They were also reminded that the fundamental purpose of Emmaus is to encourage discipleship in order to strengthen and grow local churches.
Perhaps all of us who walked prior to AE 53 and 54 need the same reminder. Because we have been on the Walk to Emmaus does not mean we are special. All of us experienced a special weekend of Christian agape love. This love needs to be shared with our personal family, our church family, our friends, and yes, even with strangers. Sharing God's love should be the objective of all of us who have been blessed through our participation in Emmaus. Pray, share God's love, pray some more, share God's love even more and we will all be blessed beyond measure!

It's Cookie time:
|
Kairos PCI#8 is right around the corner & that means some baking will be taking place soon. PCI#8 will need 2,000 dozen cookies. Chocolate chip only, with each dozen in its own plain Ziploc bag (no "slide locks" allowed.) They may be delivered to any Kairos Team member. Cookies should be turned in by Nov. 5th. Start making them now and freeze 'em . . . a few dozen each weekend as a family project would really add up by November 5th. |
 |
Cookies for Kairos
The purpose of Kairos is to build strong Christian communities inside prison walls. It starts with a three-day short course in Christianity, and continues with small share and prayer groups among residents of the institution.
Cookies are a tangible expression of Christian love and an indication of God's concern to a group of people who seldom encounter either in their daily lives.
Albemarle Kairos will use 2,000 dozen cookies during a Kairos weekend, and we currently have two Kairos weekends a year a year.
During a Kairos three-day weekend we distribute cookies to every resident and every staff member. These homemade cookies are a tangible and vital expression of Christ's love and a witness from the outside Christian community.
|
Important Specifications:
- Bake ONLY sturdy Chocolate Chip Cookies.
- DO NOT add fruit, nuts, or coating of ANY KIND to the cookies. Make only plain Chocolate Chip Cookies.
- Size: two to two and-a-half (2 - 2 1/2 ) inches in diameter. Thin, crisp cookies break easily and cannot be used.
- Allow cookies to COOL COMPLETELY before bagging. Warm cookies will stick together and cannot be used.
- Bag cookies in zip-lock freezer bags, a dozen per bag. DO NOT use zippered bags. One-quart bags are the best size to use.
- Pack bags in sturdy boxes such as shoe box or copy paper box so they will survive the trip to prison.
- Cookies can be given to any Kairos team member.

Stand Up & Praise Him
\o/ Looking back at AE #53 \o/
God is good!! The power of prayer was so evident in the planning and execution of AE53 that it would be impossible to believe that anything or anyone other than God was responsible for its success. The team that God picked was awesome and the Pilgrims God sent were indeed blessed to have been a part of such a wonderful weekend. Thanks to all who prayed, sponsored, teamed or otherwise had a part in supporting AE 53, Stand Up & Praise Him. It was a blessing to all involved and to God be all the glory!
DeColores,
Olin Davis
