Chrysalis REFLECTIONS
from our Community Lay Director
AE 55 Emmaus logo
We happily welcome the caterpillars from AC #22 and the pilgrims of AE # 55 to the Albemarle Emmaus/Chrysalis community! We pray that your fourth day is going well and hope you will join us in our monthly gatherings.

Emmaus, an international Christian organization, has changed the hearts and lives of thousands of people. Thanks be to God! Each time we have a walk or flight it is likely that somewhere in our world, fellow believers, men, women, and youth in Christ, are experiencing a similar weekend. Remember the international agape that was shared on your walk? Remember being told that people in other communities all over the world were praying for you? Awesome !

Because Albemarle Emmaus is affiliated with Emmaus International, there is a model with guidelines and procedures that we are expected to observe. The International Emmaus Field Representative for our region requested to meet with the Albemarle Emmaus Board of Directors to review this model and also to review the organization of Albemarle Emmaus and how we conduct our walks. Everyone, including the representative from the international Emmaus office, unanimously agreed that we have a wonderful community filled with the Holy Spirit and God's love.

The International Representative shared suggestions and expectations with the board. The board, for the past several months, has studied and reviewed these recommendations. Several modifications have been made. Please pray for the board as we continue to review, study, and pray about these suggestions and expectations. We know that God is in charge and pray that all decisions are in accordance with His will.

DeColores,
Pat

Board Notes & Other Information

candle candle candle candle candle candle candle candle candle candle candle candle
Our AE board decided back in 2002 that we should no longer sell candles at gatherings or candlelights. Concerns were voiced from the community that items should not be sold in churches. If you have a light similar to candlelight flashlights please use them. Spotlights can blind people and should be avoided. Miriam & Tony Hughes at HTM Concepts (252) 482-8212 have lights available for Candlelights.
Remember to remove the batteries if you store your flashlight. Batteries can leak, corrode, and damage not only the flashlight but other items as well.

Newsletter information needs to be in to the newsletter editor at that month's Gathering. We try to have the newsletter ready for printing the following Monday afternoon to meet our printer's schedule. If the newsletter isn't ready by Tuesday afternoon it might be as much as a week later before it is printed.

Please do not reserve or set aside seats for latecomers at Send-offs, Gatherings or Closings. Doing so makes it difficult for others who do arrive on time to find a seat. Sometimes this leaves people standing when those seats being saved for others remain empty. However, the AE Board would like to set aside seating at Candlelights and Closing for immediate family members of Pilgrims.

Please Do Not toss candy out at Mananitas or other events. Pilgrims/Caterpillars do not pick them up which means the TEAM must clean up.

Double-check your name on the web site prayer vigil in case we misspell a name or list it at the wrong time.
Remember to use your "refresh" button when checking newsletters for updated information. Some computers hold the original version in memory & do not let you see the new one without asking for it. Clicking the "refresh" button asks your computer to show you the newer version of a web page.

Make a note that we do not have an Albemarle Emmaus Pilgrim application deadline. Due dates listed in the Community Calendar are for priority consideration for the next walk. However, remember also that applications are considered on a first-come first-serve basis and we cannot guarantee anyone that a Pilgrim will be able to attend any specific walk.
Sponsors are reminded to check their Pilgrim's application to make sure all information has been completed correctly including contact information.   And don't forget that sponsors must complete the sponsor's part of the application as well.

UPPER ROOM EMMAUS Boardroom:
Revised Director's Manual  --   The Spiritual Director's Manual and the Lay Director's Manual have been updated and combined to form a new Emmaus Directors' Manual. (#9868; $12.00). The "Clergy Talk Outlines," which were included with the old Spiritual Director's Manual, are now available free as a downloadable PDF.     The "Clergy Talks" are being updated now to be packaged with the "Lay Talk Outlines," which will be available for purchase by July 2004. When the new "Talk Outlines" are ready, communities will be notified. The new Emmaus Directors' Manual is available at 1-800-972-0433. It contains an updated 3-day schedule and provides consistency for all directors.   You must have the free program, Adobe® Acrobat Reader to open a PDF File.

At your next Gathering, take a minute to look around and see if anyone you know is missing. Not everyone can make every event, life can be too busy at times. But there might be someone absent because they didn't get a newsletter, or forgot to check the web site for schedule updates. Start with the people you sponsored, or the people that sponsored you. Then think back to your walk and the people at your table. Give someone a call to keep them plugged in. Nobody can be at two places at one time, but they might appreciate the reminder call.

Not sure you know what Kairos is?

Kairos Prison Ministry, Inc. is the parent organization addressing spiritual needs of incarcerated men, women and children, as well as to their families and to those who work in the prison environment. Kairos Prison Ministry, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation chartered in the State of Florida and known as Kairos Prison Ministry, or simply Kairos. The purpose of Kairos is the building of strong Christian communities within the environment of correctional institutions. Although a separate ministry, Kairos is supported by volunteers from 4th Day movements such as Cursillo, National Episcopal Cursillo, Presbyterian Cursillo, Lutheran Via de Cristo, The Upper Room's Walk To Emmaus, and independently ecumenical Tres Dias. Kairos Prison Ministry is not a movement, Kairos is a ministry.
