Please remember that young children should remain with their parents at all times during Gatherings and Candlelights.
During the Gathering and AE-57 Candlelight this past Saturday one young child wandered alone into a dangerous situation on the Assembly of Praise Church banister and had to be "rescued" by a church staff member.

Cale Retreat Junior Counselor Positions
Cale Retreat is looking for young, mature, spiritually minded youth ages
15 to 17 to serve as Junior Counselors during this summer's camp season. Positions
will require a 4 week commitment and should prove to be a growing
experience in many facets of life. After a week of training, counselors
will serve under a senior counselor leading campers for a week of fun,
singing, activities, games, and many opportunities to learn and tell about
God's love. To read more about the position and other activities
happening at Cale visit www.caleretreat.org or call the
office at (252) 264-2513 and speak to Steve Carter.
Father & Son Retreat
Cale Retreat will host a Father & Son Retreat April 16th & 17th. Participants will arrive Friday evening and depart Saturday afternoon about 3.
Three meals will be provided and participants will have the opportunity to experience camp fires, singing, marshmallows, games, rock wall climbing, ropes course and more than one scheduled time of learning about God and His plan for the lives of men.
All dads with sons are invited, granddads may bring their grandsons and men
may even find a boy without a father and bring them. This could be a great
outreach for our churches to fathers and sons who do not attend church.
New Emmaus Meal Blessings!
The International Emmaus Office is offering downloadable versions of the Blessing before Meals and the Blessing after Meals and grants permission to all Emmaus Communities to use
these new songs during Emmaus Walks. Communities who download and use the songs are
invited to make a donation to the Emmaus Office for the International Development fund.
This fund will be used to assist in the establishment of new Emmaus communities.

The Old Man of the Great Wall Lost His Horse
Near China's northern border not far from the Great Wall of China
lived an old man, who had a very fine horse. One day, for no reason at all,
the horse ran away into the barbarian territory,
and failed to return.
When his friends and relatives heard the tale, they all came to comfort
the old man. "We are so sorry you have lost such a fine horse" they said.
With an apparent lack of concern the old man only said "Who knows if my horse
running away is bad. Maybe it is bad, or maybe some good will come of it."
Several months later, the old man's horse did return, bringing an entire
herd of wild horses from the barbarian territory with it.
Again his friends and neighbors all came, this time to congratulate the old man.
But he responded that there was really nothing worth rejoicing over saying "Who knows
if my horse returning is good. Maybe it is good, or maybe something bad will come of it."
After a few days the old man's son tried to ride one of the new horses from
the barbarian lands. Unfortunately, because the horse had not been tamed, it threw the
boy to the ground, breaking his thigh bone when falling from the horse.
Again both family and neighbors arrived to express their sympathy only to
hear the old man tell them, "Who knows if my son breaking his leg is bad.
Maybe it is bad, or maybe some good will come of it. We shall see."
About a year later barbarians attacked the area and broke through the
Great Wall in force. All the healthy young men in the area were called to war,
and the vast majority were killed.
The old man's son, on the other hand, was not able to go to battle
because his bad leg kept him out of military service and his life was spared.
As this story, recorded in Huai Nan Zi, shows, in all good fortune
there may lurk bad, and even an apparent misfortune can produce something of good benefit.
Who knows? God knows.

KAIROS
|
In preparation for the next Kairos weekend, April 29th to May 2nd, 2004, Kairos PCI #9 Outside Support Team Coordinator Rose Monroe has provided the following Agape information.
If anyone has questions, needs additional information, or wants to be more involved, call or E mail Rosemary Monroe at 252-221-8898
KAIROS CHILDREN’s AGAPE
Children’s agape is greatly valued by prison residents. However, there are a few rules we must follow.
1) Construction paper folded with hand drawn pictures and notes or Bible verses in crayon, markers or colored pencils are GREAT.
2) No tape, stickers or glue can be given to the residents.
3) Please have children sign first names and age only. Please don’t put church names on the note.
4) Do not put cards into sealed envelopes.
5) Unlike adult agape, children’s letters do not need to be alike or be in groups on 42.
KAIROS ADULT AGAPE
1) Cookies: See special instructions for the chocolate chip cookies.
2) Green Agape: money for Kairos is separate from Emmaus. If you would like to make a donation to Kairos make your checks out the Kairos of North Carolina.
3) Prayers: Please sign one of the “praying for you” chain links. These links are made into a chain and put together on the weekend and placed around the talk room for the residents. Prayer chain sign up sheets will be available at the next gathering.
4) Written Agape: Anyone wishing to hand write agape must follow all Kairos and Pasquotank Correctional Institution guidelines or the Agape cannot be forwarded to the residents.
a. no bookmarkers, pens, pencils, machine printed materials, stickers or anything with glue can be used for Agape
b. All 42 residents must receive the same agape
c. 42 notes, letters, or words of encouragement are to be submitted on exactly the same note cards, postcards or stationary. The same ink pen must be used for each piece of Agape. The note may not vary in content.
d. Place the handwritten Agape in an unsealed envelope.
e. Please allow the Lord to form your letter. We ask that you not write to them about their crime or sentencing but focus on the Christian message of God’s love.
2,000 Dozen Homemade Cookies Needed
NC Kairos Prison Ministry
The purpose of Kairos is to build strong Christian communities inside prison walls. It begins with a three-day short course in Christianity and continues with prayer and share groups among the residents. Cookies are distributed to every prison resident and staff member during the 3-day weekend. The handmade cookies are a tangible and vital expression of Christ’s love and witness from the outside Chrisitian community. YOUR WITNESS- during this life changing weekend. |
 |
Important Instructions
- Bake only sturdy chocolate chip cookies.
- Do not add fruit, nuts or coatings of any kind. Make only PLAIN chocolate chip cookies.
- Please size the finished cookies to be about 2 1/2 inches in diameter.
- Bag cookies in freezer bags. One dozen cookies per bag. One quart freezer bags are the best size to use.
- Allow cookies to cool completely before bagging. Warm cookies will stick together and can not be used.
- Pack bagged cookies in a sturdy box, such as a shoe box or a copy paper box so they will safely make the trip to Pasquotank Correctional Institution.
- Cookies may be given to any Kairos team member or delivered to
Edenton United Methodist Church or
