Past and present Kairos team members are invited to attend and help conduct a Kairos Retreat at Pasquotank Correctional Institution (PCI) on Saturday August 7th. Your help is needed. Meet 6 AM for pre-retreat instructions at the McDonalds on US Hwy 17 north of the hospital in Elizabeth City. Everyone will leave the prison together at about 7 PM that evening. A PCI volunteer "blue card" is not needed to attend the retreat. If able to attend, please contact Eric Lowe (252-453-6784) so proper admission arrangements can be made with PCI. We are looking forward to a great time! Thank you and God Bless, Eric Lowe |

The AE Community came through for Kairos PCI # 9 by providing 3,000 dozen cookies. It was enough that the team, which usually has to settle for crumbs, got real cookies. Thank you Community ! |

As you review this Albemarle Emmaus newsletter online, remember that a 4-page printable version is also available
here. Printing directly from the web site can result in a 9-page book, se we've condensed everything into a PDF file that is the same as what is mailed on paper. |
If you are receiving one of the 750 paper copies we mail out and want to help save Albemarle Emmaus money,
and ask to be removed from the snail-mail list and print your newsletter from the web. . . and you'll probably see the newsletter on the web before a paper copy makes it to your mailbox. Don't forget to give us that snail mail address, and if you want, we will Email you a note everyting a newsletter has been posted to the web site so you'll know when it's ready. If you have seen Jennifer Lynn Harrell can you send us a note? Following a recent address change her AE newsletter was returned as not deliverable. If you know her correct address, please let us know because we do not want to loose her. While you're at it, how about checking your own newsletter address label and make sure we have the address right. |

For the past year, it has been my pleasure to serve as lay director for the Albemarle Emmaus Community. It has been a joy to serve with the AE Board of Directors as we have endeavored to conduct the business of the community on your behalf. It has also been a joy to see the difference Albemarle Emmaus continues to make in the lives of the people who participate as pilgrims and then remain active in the community. This spring we completed walks #56 and #57. With a minimum of 36 pilgrims on most walks, more than 2000 people have been on Albemarle Emmaus walks since AE #1. Attendance at gatherings seems to be declining although we add approximately 180 new members to the community each year with five walks. Additionally, with two Chrysalis flights each year, we add approximately 60-70 youth to our numbers. I encourage you to attend gatherings. They, along with your reunion groups, will help you keep prayer, study, and Christian action as priorities in your life. Enjoy the fellowship of other Christians each month as we sing, pray, and encourage each other in our daily walks with Christ. Plan to attend the gathering in July and the family picnic in August. Details are listed elsewhere in this newsletter. The new officers of the Albemarle Emmaus are: Community Lay Director, Punk Daniels; Assistant Community Lay Director, Mike Rowe; Secretary, Heidi Sawyer; Treasurer, Doug Spaeth; and Community Spiritual Director, Max Edwards. Please keep these leaders and all the board members in your prayers as they continue to work on the challenges before them. We welcome John Collins, David Denton, Marcia Danchise, and Freda Nelson, and Assistant Community Spiritual Director David Mansingh to the board as newly elected directors. We also thank Frances Hampton, Carole Hill, and C.D. White for their dedication to the board during their three years as directors. I am also completing my three-year term. The team selection committee, described in the May newsletter, will become effective with AE # 60, the January 2004 walk. The formation of this committee is an attempt to move closer to the international model of Upper Room Emmaus. Please pray for all concerned as this change becomes effective. |
