Albemarle Emmaus Community Kairos Children’s Agape

Children’s agape is greatly valued by the prison residents. However, there are a few rules that must be followed.
  1.   Construction paper folded with hand drawn pictures and notes or Bible verses in crayon, markers or colored pencils are GREAT.
  2.   No tape, stickers or glue can be given to the residents.
  3.   Please have children sign first names and age only.   Please don’t put church names on the note.
  4.   Do not put cards into sealed envelopes.
  5.   Unlike adult agape, children’s letter do not need to be alike or be in groups of 43.
Kairos Adult Agape
1)   -   Cookies: See special instructions for the chocolate chip cookies.
2)   -   Green Agape: money for Kairos is separate from Emmaus.   If you would like to make a donation to Kairos make your checks out the Kairos of North Carolina.
3)   -   Prayers: Please sign one of the “praying for you” chain links.   These links are made into a chain and put together on the weekend and placed around the talk room for the residents to see. If you were unable to sign a Prayer Chain at a Gathering, enter your name on the web site page & we will make a link for you.
4)   -   Written Agape: Anyone wishing to hand write agape must follow all Kairos and Pasquotank Correctional Institution guidelines or the Agape cannot be forwarded to the residents.
a.   No bookmarkers, pens, pencils, machine printed materials, stickers nor anything with glue can be used for Agape
b.   All 43 residents must receive the same agape from Adults.
c.   43 notes, letters, or words of encouragement are to be submitted on exactly the same note cards, postcards or stationary. The same ink pen must be used for each piece of Agape. The note may not vary in content.
d.   Place the handwritten Agape in an unsealed envelope.
e.   Please allow the Lord to form your letter.   We ask that you not write to them about their crime or sentencing but focus on the Christian message of God’s love and forgiveness.

2,000 Dozen Homemade Cookies Needed

NC Kairos Prison Ministry
The purpose of Kairos is to build strong Christian communities inside prison walls. It begins with a three-day short course in Christianity and continues with prayer and share groups among the residents. Cookies are distributed to every prison resident and staff member during the 3-day weekend. The handmade cookies are a tangible and vital expression of Christ’s love and witness from the outside Chrisitian community. YOUR WITNESS- during this life changing weekend.

Important Instructions
  1.   Bake only sturdy chocolate chip cookies.
  2.   Do not add fruit, nuts or coatings of any kind. Make only PLAIN chocolate chip cookies.
  3.   Please size the finished cookies to be about 2 1/2 inches in diameter.
  4.   Bag cookies in freezer bags. One dozen cookies per bag. One quart freezer bags are the best size to use.
  5.   Allow cookies to cool completely before bagging. Warm cookies will stick together and can not be used.
  6.   Pack bagged cookies in a sturdy box, such as a shoe box or a copy paper box so they will safely make the trip to Pasquotank Correctional Institution.
  7.   Cookies may be given to any Kairos team member or delivered to New Life Assembly of God Church no later than the 10AM on Thursday, November 4th, before PCI-10 begins.
Question can be directed to Phyllis Story 252-221-8422 or Rose Monroe 252-221-8898.

Mathew 25:36 . . . I was in prison and you came to me.

Email Volunteers Needed

Anyone using Email can probably say that they have have noticed a massive rise in the volume of spam and junk mail in the past year. One study says more than 60 percent of today's Internet traffic is spam. That's why it is no surprise to find Email filters being used to block unwanted messages.   Unfortunately, because we send out more than 500 Emails to the community these filters have caused problems for Albemarle Emmaus. To overcome these filters we have been sending out Email 20 or 25 at a time. That takes a lot of time. There are list services, companies (paid and/or free) that can send out email messages for us, but the paid can be expensive and the free services include ads.

We have found two, however, that might meet the needs of Albemarle Emmaus and are asking for about a dozen volunteers to sign up for this service so we can seen just how well it works for the community.

If you are interested in being an Email volunteer, send and Email to and we will explain the steps to sign up and what's required to monitor the list service.

NOTES FROM OUR COMMUNITY LAY DIRECTOR

Angel
With the Closing of AE 59 Sunday, Oct. 17, we have only Kairos PCI-10 to complete our weekends for 2004. The New Year 2005 kicks off with AC 24 the weekend of Dec. 30 - Jan. 2, followed by AE 60 Ladies Walk the weekend of Jan. 13 - 16.

I don't have an exact count, but I believe we have nearly 2000 involved in Albemarle Emmaus! What a great blessing to Northeastern North Carolina! We truly have the opportunity to "Change Our World".

While we serve with humility and the "servant spirit", we can take great pride in our brothers and sisters in Christ who have sustained their "Fourth Day" with their service to their Church and the Community.

Participation in Gatherings, Reunion Groups, Send-offs, Candlelight, Mananitas, and Closings, along with prayerful Sponsoring, and loving Agape' - sustains our Community contacts and strengthens our spirits!

May God continue to bless every one of you for being "who" and "what" you are! Love you all!

"Punk Daniels"

Albemarle Emmaus is in constant need of Place Mats. It takes several hundred for each walk.
Albemarle Chrysalis is in constant need of Place Mats, Joy Flags, and Warm Fuzzies.
They only require a little talent, a little time and a little bit of work.
If we all pitch in and help, the many hands will make it small work for all.
Call Joy Denton (252-482-7105) or Mandy Morgan (252-482-3618) if you need blank mats to decorate for Emmaus, or contact Dail and Donna Harris for Chrysalis Agape.

Make sure that your application to team, or your Pilgrim's application goes to the correct address. All applications are considered based on the application postmark date. Emmaus applications go to Albemarle Emmaus, Post Office Box 1198, Edenton, NC 27932. Chrysalis applications go to Albemarle Chrysalis, Post Office Box 2707, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.

Please remember also that Emmaus Team application cutoffs are:
The first Saturday of October for the January Walk.
The first Saturday of December for the March Walks.
The first Saturday in July for the October Walks.

While there is no cutoff date for Pilgrim applications, for first consideration applications must be in the first Saturday of the month of:
November for the January Walk.
January for the March Walks.
August for the October Walks.

However, please do not tell any Pilgrim that they are being selected for any specific walk. At times we have more names than available places on a walk, and sometimes Pilgrims selected cannot go the first (or even second) time they are selected.
