“The Bible is the best of all books, for it is the word of God and teaches us the way to be happy in this world and in the next. Continue therefore to read it and to regulate your life by its precepts.”

The Albemarle Emmaus Community welcomes all the new pilgrims of AE61 and AE62.
May your 4th day be blessed and full of joy!

|
To the Albemarle Emmaus Community:
As we move through the most holy week of our Christian faith, may our thoughts be on the Supreme Sacrifice made by God the Father - allowing His Son to be our atonement for our sinful nature - and sending His Holy Spirit to indwell our hearts and guide our thoughts and actions. As we painfully reflect on the passion of Christ and His crucifixion, let us remember
—
THAT WAS FRIDAY — BUT SUNDAY'S COMING!
Thank you, Jesus!

New Hope United Methodist Church is sponsoring an Agape Workshop the third Tuesday of each month from 9 to 11 AM in the fellowship hall. Each session will focus on an area of Emmaus, Chrysalis or Kairos agape. Anyone with supplies is welcome to bring them and work with a group. The April meeting will be to make cookies for the coming Kairos weekend. If you have questions contact Pat Capps at (252) 264-3580.
When preparing Agape, here are a few things to remember:

No Walk themes or Walk dates on placemats.

Any Agape sent to Pilgrims on a weekend should fit in an envelope.

Put the first and last name of each Pilgrim on their envelopes, not nicknames

Separate personal from general Agape

Put a "P" in the right hand corner of personal letters or separate them in bags or bundles and make sure they are clearly labeled.
Please, no gifts or gift bags or items attached to the outside of envelopes. This request is made in an effort to be fair and equitable to ALL Pilgrims on a weekend. A Gift whether wrapped or in a Gift Bag is a great surprise to the Pilgrim on the way home or sometime during their first "4th day" week.
When you have Agape ready contact Joy Denton at (252) 482-7105
or Mandy Morgan at (252) 482-3618.
PLEASE NOTE: As a result of a National
Upper Room Emmaus Pilgrim fee increase,
effective immediately the Albemarle Emmaus Pilgrim
application fee is $40.
The change should be corrected on all future Pilgrim Applications submissions.

February Correction
To correct a February newsletter mistake, please note that we only have pilgrims applications from about ten men and about 28 women to walk in October. That includes any that declined going on the March walk. It takes about 60 applications to fill a walk of 36-42 pilgrims. Of course sponsoring people that really want to go and those that really want to further their walk with Christ is most important. Send your applications to:
Albemarle Emmaus
Post Office Box 1198
Edenton, NC 27932
Twenty-five men and 28 women were scheduled to participate in the first two Irish Emmaus Walks in Dublin February 14 through March 2. Upper Room Ministries through its International Emmaus office has worked for the past three years with Catholic and Protestant leaders leading up to these events.
The Walks were led by an international team made up of Emmaus leaders from the United States, South Africa, Australia, India, and Ireland.
Please pray that God will guide and bless all those involved.

As we concluded our Emmaus® Weekend, we were introduced to the concept of
the Fourth Day — a symbol of the days of Christian pilgrimage that follow the
three-day Emmaus experience. Our Walk to Emmaus was a unique opportunity to
reflect on our faith journey and make a deeper commitment to Christ.
Now in the living of our Fourth Days, we are encouraged to continue growing
in our relationship with Christ and live as a faithful disciple.
An important and necessary foundation for faithful Christian living is a vital
connection to the Christian community for support, guidance, and challenge.
Certainly this is most available through our local church community, our
reunion groups, and Emmaus community Gatherings.
Another important way to stay connected to the support of the Christian
community is through the writings of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
The Upper Room® is committed to providing the most creative and helpful
resources which will support persons in their faith walk. Therefore an
annotated reading list has been developed for persons who have made
the Emmaus Walk. We hope that you will find spiritual guidance and nurture in
these resources and that they will help you as you live the Fourth Days of
Christian discipleship.

Kairos is a Christian, lay-led, ecumenical,
volunteer international prison ministry,
in which men and women volunteers bring Christ’s love and forgiveness to incarcerated
individuals and to their families. Kairos consists of three programs:
the Men's and Women's Ministry, begun in 1976, Kairos Outside, begun in 1991,
and Kairos Torch, begun in 1997.
- The Men's and Women's Ministry addresses the spiritual needs of prisoners.
Kairos volunteers go into prisons in teams of 30 to 40 to pray,
share the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ, share meals,
and fellowship with the incarcerated on a one-to-one basis.
The first visit is a three-day event,
during which time the team teaches a short introductory course on Christianity.
Subsequent visits are monthly half-day
reunions with the prisoners over a twelve-month period.
- Kairos Outside provides spiritual healing to families of the incarcerated,
who often feel that they too are “doing time”.
Spouses, parents and other relatives of prisoners meet with teams of Kairos volunteers
to share their faith and gain strength from Christian community.
- Kairos Torch provides a ministry to youthful offenders,
the most rapidly growing segment of the prison system.
Because young people between the ages of 13 and 19 are generally housed in
smaller institutions than adult offenders,
smaller-sized teams participate in this ministry.
- Kairos Ministries currently operates in 270 prisons in 33 states,
England, Australia, South Africa, Costa Rica, and Canada. More than 170,000
incarcerated men and women have been introduced to Kairos, since its inception.
The current number of volunteers exceeds 20,000 per year.
- Kairos Outside is active in 19 states, Canada, England,
Australia and South Africa, and includes 35 programs.
Kairos Torch is operational in 10 locations.
- Kairos Prison Ministry affects the lives of prisoners in countless positive ways.
Lives have been changed, and former inmates re-enter society as better spouses,
parents and employees. Many released prisoners become volunteers,
and give back to society. Some start their own ministries, pastor churches,
while others run re-entry programs, and become mentors.
- In 2003, Kairos volunteers donated over 3.5 million volunteer hours
to the various departments of corrections here and abroad.
If you multiply 3.5 million times the minimum wage in the USA of $5.15 per hour,
our ministry donated $18 million in volunteer time.
Volunteers paid $2 million for supplies, bringing the total donation to $20 million.
- Last year we held 618 weekend programs in 309 ministry sites:
502 Kairos weekends, 80 Kairos Outside weekends and 36 Torch weekends.
The remaining volunteer time was spent in pre-weekend and post-weekend
trainings and activities.
- In addition to having a positive impact on prisoners,
the program also has a very favorable effect upon volunteers.
Many volunteers acknowledge that the team training, with its emphasis on
introspection, honesty, sharing, and community, enhances their spirituality.
- Kairos programs have gained the respect of the correctional system too.
In a study of 505 inmates released from Florida prisons,
the recidivism rate was 15.7% among those who had participated in one Kairos session,
and 10% among those who had participated in two or more Kairos sessions.
The non-Kairos control group in the study had a recidivism rate of 23.4%.
- The savings to the taxpayer are substantial.
As one former prisoner put it: “It cost the government about $1,000,000
to try me and to imprison me for several years, but a $100 program keeps me out”.

HANDS
IT DEPENDS WHOSE HANDS IT'S IN
by: Author Unknown, Source Unknown
(This article was read at a recent Gathering, several versions can be found on the Internet dating back to at least March 2, 2001)
A basketball in my hands is worth about $19.
A basketball in Michael Jordan's hands is worth about $33 million.
It depends whose hands it's in.
A baseball in my hands is worth about $6.
A baseball in Mark McGwire's hands is worth $19 million.
It depends whose hands it's in.
A tennis racket is useless in my hands.
A tennis racket in Venus Williams' hands is a Championship Winning tennis racket.
It depends whose hands it's in.
A rod in my hands will keep away a wild animal.
A rod in Moses' hands will part the mighty sea.
It depends whose hands it's in.
A sling shot in my hands is a kid's toy
A sling shot in David's hand is a mighty weapon.
It depends whose hands it's in.
Two fish and 5 loaves of bread in my hands is a couple of fish sandwiches.
Two fish and 5 loaves of bread in God's hands will feed thousands.
It depends whose hands it's in.
Nails in my hands might produce a birdhouse.
Nails in Jesus Christ's hands will produce salvation for the entire world.
It depends whose hands it's in.
As you see now it depends whose hands it's in. So put your concerns,
your worries, your fears, your hopes, your dreams, your families and your relationships
in God's hands because...
It depends whose hands it's in.
This message is now in your hands. What will YOU do with it?
