Lay Director Comments

DeColores, Albemarle Emmaus Community!

This is the time of the usual "lull" following the Spring Walks. With PCI #11 completed and plans finalized for AC 25, overall activity in the Community tends to slow down a little. But this is an important time to carefully scrutinize sponsorship opportunities for the Fall. Each of us should be identifying those leaders in our churches that would be strong candidates for the Fall and Winter Walks.

Congratulations to the newly elected Board members, both Chrysalis and Emmaus! The June Board meeting is typically a "transition" meeting for newly elected members. Both "old" and "new" attend, and new officers are elected to assume their roles in July. We are truly blessed by those who are willing to assume these responsibilities of leadership and planning.

What a wonderful Gathering we had at Open Door on May 14th! Ricky and his flock were superb hosts, and the Spirit once again filled the sanctuary and our hearts. Thanks also to those who took time to vote in our Board elections.

Remember that we will be at Edenton Baptist on June 11th. Let's call around and assemble another great crowd for that time of Spiritual nourishment in song, praise, fellowship, and the Word.

Till then, may the Good Lord continue to bless and prosper you, and enrich your servant hearts!

Punk Daniels,   Community Lay Director

Albemarle Emmaus & Chrysalis May Election Results

Results of our May 14th Board elections at Open Door Baptist Church include:

ALBEMARLE EMMAUS BOARD:
Bill Bailey (Spiritual Director)
Dave Bundy (Spiritual Director)
Ella Coates
Lynne Furlough
Andy Stoll
Mike Twiddy
ALBEMARLE CHRYSALIS BOARD:
Paula Allen
Rocky Allen
Sarah Hupp
Tom Hupp (Spiritual Director)
John Lassister

Each position listed is for a 3-year term. Tom Quance was selected to complete the remaining two year term of a member that resigned from the Board for personal reasons. Newly elected board members attend the June board meeting as observers and become official board members with full voting privileges in July. Community officers for 2005-2006 will be elected at the June meeting by the Board and will assume office in July.

While Punk Daniels and Vickie Brady remain Board members as past AE & AC lay directors, our thanks go out to Doug Spaeth, Heidi Sawyer, Hattie Downing, Gib Harrison, Cher Valure, Kyle Jones and Buffy White for a job well done as they rotate off their respective Board positions. We will have a list of all your current Board members and position in the June newsletter.

We currently have 17 female and 9 male Caterpillar applications on file for the up-coming Summer Chrysalis Flight AC25 July 14 — 17. Please remember that an applicant must be 15-years old to fly on a Chrysalis weekend regardless of the grade they have completed. Applications must be mailed to:
Albemarle Chrysalis
Post Office Box 2707
Elizabeth City, NC 27909

It really does take a lot of "stuff" to put on a 3-day weekend. Here is a list of items needed to complete just one Chrysalis weekend.

  • 50 Warm fuzzies - for Caterpillars & table leaders
  • 50 Caterpillar Pins - for Caterpillars & table leaders
  • 50 Cocoon pins - for Caterpillars & table leaders
  • 50 I'm Lovable butterfly shaped felt pieces - for Caterpillars & table leaders
  • 50 Butterfly foam clothespins - for Caterpillars & table leaders
  • 50 First, Second, & Third Day cards - Caterpillars & table leaders for each day (we have someone who usually makes these for us)
  • Placemats:
    DeColores - 110 Friday lunch
    Miscellaneous - 110 Friday dinner
Rise to a New Day - 110 Saturday morning
Butterfly Mats to Sign - 110 Sunday morning (the Chrysalis Agape team does this mat to be consistent)
Fly With Christ - 110 Sunday lunch
  • Cloth Agape Bags - 50 for Caterpillars (and team who can't locate theirs)
  • The lanyards for our Chrysalis crosses are made out of rawhide, so we buy the rawhide and put a cross on enough lanyards for each Caterpillar to have one.
  • and 145 individual prayer times on the weekend Prayer Vigil
Trying to provide everything on this list can be a bit taxing for one person, even for the best of us. However, if you break it down into smaller, more manageable tasks it isn't so hard. For example, if you complete only 2 place mats every other day (with time off for vacations and none on Sundays) one person alone could provide all the place mats needed for an entire weekend. You might say it's a little like trying to eat an elephant, you just take one bite at a time.

So, if you would like to help supply any of these items, contact Chrysalis Agape Chair Donna Harris.

Cale Retreat Summer Camp Counselors Needed
  campers
Cale Retreat and Conference Center has openings for three 15 to 17 year old men to serve as summer camp counselors. A job description is on the Cale web page

Hey Delores!

I wanted to team on a coming walk and missed the application date. How come teaming cut-off dates for the Flights and Walks are not listed in the Community Calendar?
heydelores.gif

Thanks for your question. We do run those dates, but because the Board has asked that the Community Calendar be used for Albemarle Emmaus Events, the only time we include due dates in the Community Calendar is when space will not allow entering them elsewhere. So it is possible they were in a newsletter but not where you were looking.

We try to include any approaching deadlines in an area marked "Other Dates of Interest," or, as with the March newsletter, Chrysalis deadlines were included in the Chrysalis AC25 area. In the February newsletter there were no dates listed, but we did include a note about when Sponsor Fees must be paid in the "A Few Things to Remember:" section. When we put the April newsletter together we knew that by the time it was mailed the nearest due date would be for Chrysalis Caterpillar applications so we opted not to include any dates in order to make room for other information.

The last time we ran a complete list of application due dates was in the November 2004 newsletter. We suggest that new Pilgrims and others as well look over past newsletters to keep up with AE policies and important dates. Since you are asking it's probably a good time to run them again.

Here are the dates applications are due:

Emmaus Logo   Application Due Date
Team Pilgrim
Women's AE Winter Walk  (mid January) October 1st November 1st
Men's AE Spring Walk  (early March) December 1st January 1st
Women's AE Spring Walk  (mid March) December 1st January 1st
Chrysalis Summer Flight  (mid July) April 1st May 1st
Men's AE Fall Walk  (early October) July 1st August 1st
Women's AE Fall Walk  (mid October) July 1st August 1st
Chrysalis Winter Flight  (late December) September 1st October 1st

Applications must be mailed to:
Albemarle Emmaus
Post Office Box 1198
Edenton, NC 27932
Albemarle Chrysalis
Post Office Box 2707
Elizabeth City, NC 27909

Keep in mind, however, that there really are no Pilgrim/Caterpillar application cut-off dates. Pilgrim/Caterpillar due dates listed are for first consideration, anything after that goes to the next walk unless someone declines a walk and space becomes available on something earlier. So mark your calendars.

While you're making notes, keep in mind that the Chrysalis application fee ($35) and the Emmaus Pilgrim application fee ($40) are due when applications are submitted. Sponsor fees ($150 for both Chrysalis & Emmaus) must be paid by the date due stated in the sponsor letter. If fees are not paid by the due date that Pilgrim/Caterpillar will not be permitted to attend the weekend. That's just one of the reasons it is important that you keep your sponsor letter when you receive it, to keep informed of all important dates.

Avoid being embarrassed and have your money in on time.

I hope this helps without being too much information.
