Kairos is getting ready to begin its ministry in another North Carolina institution.

Representatives of Kairos have met with members of the administration at EASTERN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION in Maury, NC, and plans are in the works to begin KAIROS there. The first Kairos weekend could be held as early as February or March of 2006.

Maury is located on NC 903 between Snow Hill and Winterville.

Anyone interested in participating in this ministry contact:

Residents need to know you can be trusted to care for them and that you will not fall for games they will try to play with you.   Follow all instructions of the Chaplain precisely.   Your visit is an extension of the Chaplain's services.   Obey the rules of the Institution - if in doubt about an action, defer it until you can get clarification from an institutional staff member.

• Do not smuggle anything into, or out of, the institution
• No volunteer may be on the visitors list of any resident within the institution
• No metal (including notebook spirals) or glass objects may be brought in
• Do not give or accept anything from a resident
• Do not purchase anything from a resident
• Do not pass messages from a resident to others outside or vice versa
• Do not mall letters or packages for a resident
• Religious materials of any kind must come In through the Chaplain
• Avoid any financial involvement Do not give residents money
• Do not get involved with an a resident's family
• Avoid prying into a resident's life of crime
• Avoid joining a resident In criticizing authorities, police, court, institutions, etc
• Do not defend a resident's crime or failures
• Avoid Involvement In a resident's legal matters
• Treat residents, officers and staff with respect and love
• Encourage healthy attitudes and behavior
• Be honest in your relationship with residents, while guarding your own privacy
• Avoid any appearance of romantic Interest In residents Never be alone in the same room
• Evidence of serious misconduct should be reported to a staff member

• Recognize your limitations, acknowledging that with God's help you can make a difference
• Evaluate your motivations Be sincere in reaching out to residents Glorify God
• Listen and care
• Appreciate officers and other staff members' responsibilities
• Present God's love, understanding, forgiveness and acceptance
• Present God's holiness and your capacity to relate to God
• Present need for discipleship and how it disciplines your daily conduct
• Encourage relating to others in constructive ways and commitment to God's control
• Avoid suggesting a cheap form of grace:

    As though it doesn't matter how one conducts himself or herself since God forgives

    As though spiritual vitality were indicated by emotional display

    As though exercise of a particular gift were the ultimate in religious experience

• Avoid putting down the theological concepts or practices of others
• Say everything in the love of Christ
• Seek answers in the Bible when offering guidance

Get Ready for Albemarle Chrysalis Flight #26 Albemarle Chrysalis Flight #26 will be here before you know it. Scheduled to begin this December 29th and ending in the new year on January 1, 2006, this flight will be at the Eastern 4-H Center near Columbia.   The weekend promises to be an exciting one.   Our Chrysalis lay directors for AC26 are: Female Youth LD Mallory Hopkins Male Youth LD Austin Winslow Female Adult LD Kathy Jones Male Adult LD Johnny Caddy   Pray for God's presence during the Chrysalis weekend.   Make sure you have qualified your Caterpillar candidate.   Start working on your Agape.   Support AC26 by attending Sendoff Thursday night, Candlelight Saturday night, and Closing Sunday afternoon.

A young, new preacher was walking with an older, more seasoned preacher in the garden one day. Feeling a bit insecure about what God had for him to do, he was asking the older preacher for some advice. The older preacher walked up to a rose bush and handed the young preacher a rosebud and told him to open it without tearing any of the petals. The young preacher looked in disbelief at the older preacher and was trying to figure out what a rosebud could possibly have to do with his wanting to know the will of God for his life and ministry. But, because of his great respect for the older preacher, he proceeded to try and unfold the rosebud while keeping every petal intact. It wasn't long before he realized how impossible this was to do. Noticing the young preacher's inability to unfold the rosebud without tearing it, the older preacher began to recite the following poem: It is only a tiny rosebud A flower of God's design; But I cannot unfold the petals With these clumsy hands of mine. The secret of unfolding flowers Is not known to such as I. GOD opens this flower so sweetly, Then, in my hands, they die. If I cannot unfold a rosebud, The flower of God's design, Then how can I have the wisdom To unfold this life of mine? So, I'll trust in Him for leading Each moment of my day. I will look to Him for His guidance Each step of the Pilgrim's way. The pathway that lies before me Only my Heavenly Father knows. I'll trust him to unfold the moments, Just as He unfolds the rose.
