Roper Restaurant Closing

A popular and convenient place for meals before and after Emmaus functions is no longer available. The Soundview Restaurant at 71 Breezy Banks Road, Roper, NC, is closing. The waterfront property at the foot of the Edenton/Roper bridge is up for sale & expected to soon be developed for non-restaurant use. Another area restaurant is the Copper Kettle Restaurant at 24690 Hwy 64 East in Creswell (252) 797-4041. Because Copper Kettle is not normally open on Sundays arrangements will need to be made in advance. If interested contact Community Lay director Mike Rowe by calling (252) 482-4822, or contact any other Board Member.

Philosophy Class
teacher
A college student in a philosophy class listened quietly as the professor asked:

“Has anyone in this class heard God?” Nobody spoke.

“Has anyone in this class touched God?” Again, nobody spoke.

“Has anyone in this class seen God?” When nobody spoke for the third time, the professor stated, “Then there is no God.”
The student did not like the sound of this at all, and asked for permission to speak. The professor granted it, and the student stood up and asked the following questions of his classmates:

“Has anyone in this class heard our professor's brain?” There was absolute silence.

“Has anyone in this class touched our professor's brain?” Continued silence.

“Has anyone in this class seen our professor's brain?” When nobody in the class dared to speak, the student concluded, “Then, according to our professor's logic, it must be true that our professor has no brain!”

The student received an “A” in the class.

Kairos Fish                        Cookies for Kairos
It’s never too soon to start baking Kairos Cookies. Cookies are just one form of Agape used during a Kairos weekend.
The purpose of Kairos is to build strong Christian communities inside prison walls.   It starts with a three-day short course in Christianity, and continues with small share and prayer groups among residents of the institution.
Cookies are a tangible expression of Christian love and an indication of God's concern to a group of people who seldom encounter either in their daily lives.
Albemarle Kairos will use 2,000 dozen cookies during a Kairos weekend, and we currently have two Kairos weekends a year a year.
During a Kairos three-day weekend we distribute cookies to every resident and every staff member. These homemade cookies are a tangible and vital expression of Christ's love and a witness from the outside Christian community.
Our next area Kairos Weekend is May 4 — 7, PCI #13, followed by PCI #14 the weekend of November 2 — 5.

Kairos Cookie
Important Specifications:
  1. Bake ONLY sturdy Chocolate Chip Cookies.
  2. DO NOT add fruit, nuts, or coating of ANY KIND to the cookies. Make only plain Chocolate Chip Cookies.
  3. Size: two to two and-a-half (2 - 2 1/2 ) inches in diameter. Thin, crisp cookies break easily and cannot be used.
  4. Allow cookies to COOL COMPLETELY before bagging. Warm cookies will stick together and cannot be used.
  5. Bag cookies in zip-lock freezer bags, a dozen per bag. DO NOT use zippered bags. One-quart bags are the best size to use.
  6. Pack bags in sturdy boxes such as shoe box or copy paper box so they will survive the trip to prison.
  7. Cookies can be given to any Kairos team member.

Please remember that we need to be able to read your writing when signing up for Walk & Flight Prayer Vigils and when listing Praises or Prayer Concerns. Please print neatly because that helps us print what you wrote.

Interested in sponsoring a Pilgrim or serving on an Albemarle Emmaus Team?   Then mark these important dates on your calendar:

Emmaus Logo   Albemarle Emmaus Logo Application Due Date
Team Pilgrim
Women's Winter Walk  (mid January) October 1st November 1st
Men's Spring Walk  (early March) December 1st January 1st
Women's Spring Walk  (mid March) December 1st January 1st
Men's Fall Walk  (early October) July 1st August 1st
Women's Fall Walk  (mid October) July 1st August 1st

Applications must be mailed to: Albemarle Emmaus
Post Office Box 1198
Edenton, NC 27932

There really are no Pilgrim application cutoff dates, dates listed for first consideration, anything after that goes to the next walk unless space becomes available on something earlier. So mark your calendars.

And, while you're making notes, make a note that Chrysalis and Emmaus sponsor fees must be paid by the date due stated in the sponsor letter.   If fees are not paid by the due date Pilgrims will not be permitted to attend the weekend.     That's one reason it is important that you save your sponsor letter when you receive it, to keep informed of all important dates.

Avoid being embarrassed and have your money in on time.
