Chrysalis Influence
From: " Marie Clayburn"
To: Albemarle Emmaus
Subject: AE Email (Chrysalis)
Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2006 09:39:01 -0600
Hello,

My name is Marie Clayburn. I was a part of the AC 16 flight. My name when I went was Marie Keller. I believe it was late September when I attended.
I just want to say that going to ac 16 was a big influence on me. When I went my grandfather had just died and I was at a very low point in my life. Well after going through the process that weekend made me see life and God in a complete new way. I have always been religious but just never understood my purpose or what I was to do on earth.
Well six years later I am happily married and have beautiful 6 month old daughter which I love deeply. I am now very happy and pleased with how my life is and where I am going. I still have my letters from all the friends and family that wrote me on my walk. The only thing is after moving so many times my metal cross is missing. My husband was in the Navy and we have moved a lot. Now we are finally settled in Colorado. Would it be possible to maybe get another one if that is okay. I would gladly pay to have it replaced. I really just want you to know that I am so happy that I was able to do my walk with God.
I wish that someday my daughter as well as my husband could go through it as well.
    Love in Him,

Marie Clayburn

With our two fall walks right around the corner and a winter women's walk close behind them Albemarle Emmaus is about to receive more of God's finest into the community. With that in mind we would like to make a few friendly reminders:

joy flag

rose

clothes pin

agape
  1. First, begin praying now for both walks. Pray for each team member, all pilgrims, the sponsors etc.
  2. Sponsors should have personal letters for a Pilgrim from those most special to that Pilgrim. Keep in mind the quantity of letters is not important - what is important is that you know them well enough to get letters on their behalf from the people that will be most meaningful for them.
  3. Agape letters need first and last names on each envelope - not your name not nicknames. Please remember that there will probably be at least 25 other pilgrims that will also be “Momma” or “Daddy” just as there might be two or more “John” or “Sue” Pilgrims. Having a Pilgrim's letter with their first and last name helps that letter make it to the right person on time. It also helps at sorting time if all are labeled correctly.
  4. As community we DO NOT touch or hug pilgrims or team during the walk weekend.
  5. Separate personal from general Agape - put a “P” in the right hand corner of personal letters or separate them in bags or bundles and make sure they are clearly labeled.
  6. You do not need 100 personal letters. About a dozen or so will do.
  7. Remember to sort Agape A L P H A B E T I C A L L Y.
  8. It also makes it fool-proof to sort if all are labeled clearly & correctly. It is always a good idea to P-R-I-N-T neatly because we cannot process what we cannot read.
  9. Pilgrims receive personal letters in their cloth bags on Friday, and then receive additional agape Friday night and Saturday night. However, please do not include “Friday” or “Saturday” as any part of the Agape label. If you want to request that it be given at a particular time please include it in a bag labeled that way.
  10. Nothing bigger than 4-1/2 X 6 inches will be given to a Pilgrim unless there is one for every Pilgrim. Only letter sized envelopes will fit in the cloth Agape bags.
  11. NO GIFTS - Please. Wrapped Ggifts and Gift Bags will be given back to sponsors at Send - off if any are brought. Please save any gifts for the Pilgrims for their 4th day.
  12. In keeping with the National Upper Room Emmaus guidelines we no longer encourage team agape on the weekends.
We are truly blessed with such a loving and caring community - let's just remember that these guidelines are in place to aid in the logistics of a pleasant weekend and to enhance each individual Pilgrim's experience.

Kairos Team applications are due the first of September

Cookies Needed

The purpose of Kairos is to build strong Christian communities inside prison walls. It begins with a three-day short course in Christianity and continues with prayer and share groups among the residents. Cookies are distributed to every prison resident and staff member during the 3-day weekend. The handmade cookies are a tangible and vital expression of Christ’s love and witness from the outside Chrisitian community. YOUR WITNESS - during this life changing weekend. Here are some important cookie instructions:
  1. Bake only sturdy chocolate chip cookies.
  2. Do not add fruit, nuts or coatings of any kind. Make only PLAIN chocolate chip cookies.
  3. Please size the finished cookies to be about 2 1/2 inches in diameter.
  4. Bag cookies in freezer bags. One dozen cookies per bag. One quart freezer bags are the best size to use.
  5. Allow cookies to cool completely before bagging. Warm cookies will stick together and can not be used.
  6. Pack bagged cookies in a sturdy box, such as a shoe box or a copy paper box so they will safely make the trip to Pasquotank Correctional Institution.
  7. Cookies may be given to any Kairos team member before PCI-14 begins.

The next Kairos Weekend is right around the corner. Agape is an important part of every Kairos Weekend.

Kairos Children’s Agape

Children’s agape is greatly valued by the prison residents. But there are a few rules we must follow.
  1. Children’s agape is greatly valued by the prison residents. But there are a few rules we must follow.
  2. Construction paper folded with hand drawn pictures and notes or Bible verses in crayon, markers or colored pencils are GREAT.
  3. No tape, stickers or glue can be given to the residents.
  4. Please have children sign first names and age only. Please don’t put church names on the note.
  5. Do not put cards into sealed envelopes.
  6. Unlike adult agape, children’s letters do not need to be alike or be in groups of 43.

Kairos Adult Agape

  1. Cookies: See special instructions for the chocolate chip cookies.
  2. Green Agape: money for Kairos is separate from Emmaus. If you would like to make a donation to Kairos make your checks out the Kairos of North Carolina.
  3. Prayers: Please sign one of the “praying for you” chain links. These links are made into a chain and put together on the weekend and placed around the talk room for the residents. Prayer chain sign up sheets will be available at the next gathering.
  4. Written Agape: Anyone wishing to hand write agape must follow all Kairos and Pasquotank Correctional Institution guidelines or the Agape cannot be forwarded to the residents.
    1. no bookmarkers, pens, pencils, machine printed materials, stickers or anything with glue can be used for Agape
    2. All 43 residents must receive the same agape from Adults.
    3. 43 notes, letters, or words of encouragement are to be submitted on exactly the same note cards, postcards or stationary. The same ink pen must be used for each piece of Agape. The note may not vary in content.
    4. Place the handwritten Agape in an unsealed envelope.
    5. Please allow the Lord to form your letter. We ask that you not write to them about their crime or sentencing but focus on the Christian message of God’s love

Family

Mere religious affiliation may not reduce divorce, but religious practice clearly does. One longitudinal analysis of the National Survey of Family Growth found that couples who attended church as often as once a month had divorce rates less than half that of couples who attended church once a year or less. Similarly, a recent study of the National Survey of Families and Households found that marriage in which both couples attend church regularly has the lowest divorce risk  .  .  .
