The Purpose of Emmaus
Emmaus is a vehicle to renew the Church as the body of the Risen Christ in the world through the renewal of church members as faithful and committed disciples of Jesus Christ.
Emmaus expands participant’s spiritual lives, deepens their discipleship, and rekindles their gifts as Christian leaders in their churches and communities.
These aims are accomplished not only during the tree day Emmaus Walk, but through attending monthly Gatherings, Sponsorship and support of Walks, and service on Emmaus teams. Persons whose spiritual lives are renewed and strengthened through Emmaus are called to share the grace they receive in their community and to be positive influences in their local churches.
The purpose of Emmaus is generally not fully realized during the three days of the event itself; but, rather in the Fourth Day.

| AGAPE Notes |
We are all excited about AE 71 and 72! In preparation, let's remember a few logistical things:
- Agape letters should have the Pilgrims first and last name on the envelope. Remember, there may be more than one Mary or one John. Remember to try to limit personal letters to 20 or less; indicate them with a small "P" in the upper right hand corner of the envelope. This in no way limits the amount of letters you can collect for your pilgrim; just think of these 20 as the MOST personal letters. Remember, your pilgrim will have other opportunities to receive letters and they will be every bit as meaningful.
- All Agape letters should be in alphabetical order - this is to make the large task of sorting all the letters for a weekend much more efficient.
- Sponsorship money is due upon notification that a pilgrim is going to attend a certain walk.
|
|
- Please no gift bags or wrapped gifts of any kind unless you are providing the same for all Pilgrims. Saving these types of things as a gift for the way home or anytime during their 4th day will be every bit as meaningful.
- Candlelight is all about showing and sharing the love of Jesus with all Pilgrims - we want each Pilgrim to see Jesus in each one of us. Given this all important criteria, we are asked to simply carry a single candle (no bright lights or flashing lights) and treat each pilgrim as if we are there just for them. We are asked not to "love on" or touch the pilgrims because we are there to show love to each one equally just as Christ does. Some pilgrims do not have a large family, or large circle of friends and we want them to feel the love of Jesus as well. Besides, think about it, if everyone had to touch and hug their Pilgrim, Candlelight would last a lifetime!

Place Mat Agape
We have almost exactly enough placemats for the two walks coming up in March.
That does not mean we should stop working on new placemats because, believe it or not, October will be here before you know it.
Anyone that needs blank mats to decorate should call Joy Denton (252-482-7105) or
and we will find a way to get them to you.
If you have decorated placemats, bring or send them to the March 3rd or 17th Gatherings & Candlelights at Open Door Baptist Church in Edenton.
If you can’t make the Gatherings, mail them to:
Joy Denton,
836 Indian Trail Road,
Edenton, North Carolina 27932.
Please Remember:
- NO personal names on placemats
- NO Walk Numbers on placemats
- NO themes or theme names on placemats
- PLEASE DO NOT put DeColores and Good Morning together on the same placemats

Albemarle Emmaus
Board Notes
|
Dear Members of the AE Community,
On Sunday, January 21st, at the Albemarle Emmaus Board of Director monthly meeting, Treasurer Lynne Furlough brought the financial status of Albemarle Emmaus to our attention. A detailed review of the 2006 calendar year shows that we have experienced a financial loss. Income from team fees, sponsor fees, and monthly gathering offerings have not equaled expenses for both Chrysalis and Emmaus activities. The current projection is that we need about $6,900 of additional income to finish the 2006 year in the black.
As most are aware, there are ongoing charges and expenses in addition to walk-related activities. What may not be known is that these fees exceed more than $9,000 annually. To name a few, they include: liability insurance, ark supplies, Internet fees, Upper Room fees, supplies, bus gas for candlelight, etc., as well as printing and postage for the monthly newsletter. Until recently offerings offset these expenses. However, recent offering donations have been way down from past years.
The board would like to ask everyone to prayerfully consider making a donation to Albemarle Emmaus. You may consider making a gift in memory of someone or in honor of one’s church. The gift and the giver will be kept confidential. Any gifts or donations should be made payable to Albemarle Emmaus and mailed to the post office box address listed at the top of this newsletter.
Again, your prayerful consideration toward making an investment in this ministry is greatly needed and graciously appreciated.
Respectfully yours,
Freda G. Nelson
Community Lay Director

New Walk & Flight Fees Effective April 1
Fees associated with Albemarle Emmaus and Chrysalis will increase effective April 1, 2006.
Our summer Chrysalis flight will be the first event affected, and then the Fall Walks. Teaming and sponsor fees were last raised in the Spring of 2002, Emmaus application fees have not changed since March 2005.
Unfortunately, as community expenses increase we must raise our fees to keep up with the expenses we incur. As much as we hate to see this happen, we also know we cannot possibly put a price on our Emmaus experience. So, we will all need sacrifice a little bit more to provide others with the same experience we had. Please make a note of the following fees and remember, even if you turn in an old application, you will still be responsible for the new fees.
Application Fees:
- Pilgrim and Caterpillar Application fee: $50.00
non-refundable fee to be turned in with the application.
- Pilgrim and Caterpillar Sponsor fee: $175.00
to be paid at least 3 weeks prior to the weekend.
- Pilgrim and Caterpillar Team fee: $200.00
to be paid by the second team meeting.

Day of Deeper Understanding Coming
A Day of Deeper Understanding is coming up April 14 @
Evangelical Methodist Church.
If you're excited about sponsoring someone or teaming and have not yet been to a Day of Deeper,
mark your calendar and plan to be there.
The DoDU starts at 2:30pm,
a Gathering is later that evening, also at
Evangelical Methodist Church.
You can save Albemarle Emmaus TIME & MONEY by
printing this newsletter from the web site’s
Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) version and have your name removed from the Snail Mail list.
As most readers know, printing directly from the html web version could take as many as 15 pages,
and some things do not fit the paper correctly.
That is why we have Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF)
versions of our Albemarle Emmaus newsletter available. PDF files view and print the same on a
variety of devices and operating systems. Adobe Acrobat Reader is free software that lets you
view and print PDF files. If you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download and/or print
any newsletter or application form; if you need the program we offer a
link to download a free copy of Adobe Reader.
Try it, you might like it :o)
