AE 73 & 74 Welcome

Kairos Begins at Bertie Correctional Center

Kairos at Bertie Correctional Institution is now a short step away from reality.

God has answered our prayers and allowed Kairos to schedule a first weekend at BCI in Windsor, NC, for April 3 — 6, 2008.

This is truly a giant step in faith. Now we need prayer, volunteers, money for equipment, prayer, cookies, and lots of prayer.

Anyone interested in helping with this new Kairos program is encouraged to please contact or call Rod at (252) 337-4120. There is more Kairos information related to Kairos Weekend PCI-16 at Pasquotank Correctional Center elsewhere in this newsletter.

Kairos at BCI will need a lot of support from the Emmaus community to make things happen, so please respond when God tugs at your heart.

Women are needed for the outside support team as well as men to enter the prison.

If you have never tried Kairos, now is the time to get out of your comfort zone and trust His grace to help you serve inside the wire.

Cookies Needed
Kairos Image Logo THE PURPOSE OF KAIROS Kairos Image Logo
Kairos helps establish strong Christian communities within the populations of correctional institutions through the impact of small, 3-to-5 person share and prayer groups of resident leaders in the institutions. Meeting weekly, members share their lives on a deep spiritual level and pray for one another, for other residents and the institution’s staff. Kairos is a ministry of the church and has been called the best example of the early church in existence today. The Kairos objective is to impact the correctional environment through the action of resident leaders, as apostles of Jesus Christ, in all areas of human activity in the prison. It's easier than you think to be a part of this movement. Cookies are distributed to every resident and staff member during each three-day weekend. These homemade cookies are a tangible and vital expression of Christ's love and witness from the outside Christian community. Kairos Weekend #16 at Pasquotank Correctional Institute will need up to 2,000 dozen cookies for the weekend. If you do the math you’ll find that we need 24,000 cookies! For more cookie information call Phyllis Storey (252) 221-8422. For general Kairos information call Bob Clinkscales (252) 426-7720

Chrysalis News:

The Albemarle Chrysalis Board has voted to extended the application period for AC #30 Caterpillar applications. As announced at Saturday’s Gathering, we have 16 female and 9 male Chrysalis applications. It’s never to early to send in Chrysalis applications and for a limited time it will not be too late. However, do not delay contacting that Chrysalis applicant you’ve been praying about because tomorrow may very well be too late.

There is also a need for Chrysalis AGAPE: Place mats are needed (DeColores, Rise to a new day, Fly with Christ and butterfly), as are Cloth Agape bags ( enough for 20 girls & 20 boys)

HELP WANTED:

We have two volunteer openings. One as AGAPE CHAIRPERSON and one as MUSIC LEADER. No experience necessary. You do not have to create all the AGAPE yourself. Some music skills would help as Music Leader. However, having excellent people skills and a strong prayer life along with being reasonably organized is much more important than being creative.

We need someone to assist in the overall co-ordination and collection of Agape items for each Albemarle Emmaus weekend and someone to oversee the co-ordination of music for each Gathering. Our goal is to promote and enhance the Quality of Life and Spiritual Position of our Pilgrims and their families.

If you are interested, or know someone that might be, please contact , any Board Member, or send a note to AE at P.O. Box 1198, Edenton, NC 27932.

A DAY OF DEEPER UNDERSTANDING
meeting
Now that your weekend is over, you may be thinking about how you might be able to team or even sponsor someone on an Emmaus Weekend.

Anyone that wants to team or sponsor must attend a Day of Deeper Understanding, often called a DoDU, so you will not want to miss our next Day of Deeper Understanding November 10th at Roper Baptist Church, 44 Griffin Rd, Roper, NC (252-793-5439).

A Day of Deeper Understanding is provided for all Pilgrims and Caterpillars who have attended a Walk to Emmaus or a Chrysalis Flight and is designed to give a deeper understanding of the purpose and structure of the Walk to Emmaus Movement. At a DoDU you will learn more about Sponsorship, Teaming, the many different forms of Agape and how you can be involved within the Emmaus Community.

As usual the November 10th Day of Deeper will begin promptly at 2:30pm so please plan to allow yourself some extra time to sign in when you arrive. There is no fee, we just try to keep track of everyone that attends.

Please note that a DoDU is required prior to the date that team or sponsor applications are due . . . . not just prior to when teaming sessions begin.   This Day of Deeper Understanding is early enough to allow everyone ample time to meet the Spring Walk teaming deadline. God can use you if you are willing to be used!   IT IS AWESOME!

However, DoDU sessions are not limited to new members of the community. Anyone can attend and even long-time members might learn something new or re-learn things forgotten. There is almost always some information being updated, so there’s always something to learn by attending.

Although an Emmaus DoDU is geared for Pilgrims and a Chrysalis DoDU for Butterflies, everyone should attend the one intended for their group. However, you must attend one or the other in order to sponsor someone, or to team on a weekend. So, be sure to mark your calendars and plan to attend  .   .   .   even if you attended a DoDU some time in the distant past. As we said before, in order to sponsor someone in the future, or team on a walk, you must have attended a Day of Deeper Understanding.

We welcome all new Pilgrims to the Emmaus community and look forward to seeing a big crowd in Roper on November 10th.

Greetings New Community Members of AE-73 & 74!

I pass along big Albemarle Emmaus “Love & Hug” to all new community members from AE-73 and AE-74 and a desire for you to have a great 4th Day! The Christian Spirit at both Candlelights and Closings was so alive that all I can say is: “Thank You God for your continued blessings to our Community.” It does “Just Keep Getting Better!”

Remember that we will have a Day of Deeper Understanding at 2:30pm on November 10th at Roper Baptist Church, followed by a Gathering at 6:30pm. Please contact your sponsor and come share in the Christian fellowship, and let the Community love on you a little more. Staying connected keeps your AE candle glowing.

“Thank You” Bernie, Christi, and all AE-73 & AE-74 Team Members for your Christian Service to these Pilgrims and this Community. Both Thomas Biggs and Gregg Biggs spoke of how strong the Holy Spirit has become on the grounds of the 4-H Conference Center in Columbia. I truly believe that Albemarle Emmaus is close to completing the transfer of our AE Spirit & Heritage from those older, special, and never forgotten holy grounds in Wakefield, VA., to our home here in Northeastern North Carolina!

Love & Prayers to you all!

P.0. Box 1198
Edenton, NC 27932
or call your newsletter editor Philip S. Ruckle Jr. at (252) 473-1301, or simply click this Email address to open your Email program and send us a message. Be sure to include your name & address and we will delete you from the paper mailing list. In return we can send you an Email notice each month when the newsletter has been posted to the web site along with any notices of other important community events so you can stay informed.

Don't forget that our Gatherings cannot start on time if you are not there on time and they do not end with the prayer following communion. After communion we sing “All in All” (on page 5 in the AE Song Book) followed by the Chrysalis Cheer. Then we all pitch in to help clean up. It only takes a dozen people a few minutes but the same job can take two people several hours.
