AE Community

In Mathew 21: 18 - 21, Jesus uses the fig tree to tell us the importance of having faith and not doubting the power of God. In verse 22 he tells us: “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”

Our Community continuously needs prayers from every person that has ever been on an AE walk. There are over 70 blank spots on the Prayer Vigils for the upcoming spring walks, AE-76 and AE-77. We need those filled as soon as possible. These Teams are beginning their teaming sessions which includes time spent praying for the Pilgrims.

What an opportunity for you to become part of these two walks. The Teams are working on Agape, golf carts and talks. What they need is help praying for the Team and the Pilgrims. Be part of one of those smiling faces of a Pilgrim at Candlelight and know you helped a heart get changed through your Prayer support of the Team and the Pilgrims.

You can sign up to be on a Prayer Vigil at here on this web site.

Now is the time to begin getting these Walks – “Good and Prayed Up!”

Most of us already know that Kairos is a spiritually powerful weekend for both men and women correctional institutions much like the Emmaus Walk. Kairos has been operating in North Carolina since the mid 1990s and many Christians in the Emmaus Community have volunteered on Kairos Weekends in Pasquotank County and will soon be doing the same in Bertie County. Kairos enjoys a solid reputation, both nationally and internationally, among correctional officials and the clergy because it creates positive changes in the lives of inmates. The call to this prison ministry is rooted in Matthew 25: 31-46 with the Lord’s admonition to visit those who are in prison, as part of the “least of these.”
Here are a few notes to remind you of upcoming Kairos events in our community.

HELP WANTED:

Albemarle Emmaus is still looking for a part time volunteer AGAPE CHAIRPERSON to assist in the overall coordination and collection of Agape items for each Albemarle Emmaus weekend. You do not need any experience and you do not have to create all the AGAPE yourself. If you are interested in filling this position, or helping serve in any other capacity, we would like to hear from you. Contact or call him at (252) 330-2091.

Hey Delores ! ! !

Hey Delores
I spoke with someone who thought that there might be some openings on the next walk. Please inform   .   .   .
    [ Potential Sponsor ]
Dear Potential:

Thanks for your question. It’s one that pops up almost every Walk Weekend.

When less than 36 names are listed in our newsletter it does look like there may be room on a walk weekend.

Pilgrim applications are accepted and selected in the order received. When a Pilgrim who has been accepted for a weekend cannot go, we look at any applications on hand to fill that Pilgrim’s place.

The process ends, however, once that weekend’s team has started team meetings. Once team meetings begin we no longer add Pilgrims to that walk. Any applications on hand and any other applications received after team meetings start go toward the next walk.

After all, we cannot honestly tell a pilgrim they have been covered in prayer for several weeks if they were added to a walk one day or even one week before the walk started.

I suggest you send an application once a Pilgrim has been qualified and confirmed that they will go because a Pilgrim cannot go without an application.

It's all in God's hands. If a person is meant to be on a walk it is God, not the team or Pilgrim selection committee, who will work out the details.

I hope this helps.

Good Sponsorship Vital to Emmaus
While most church related functions take a “Y’all come!” approach to participation, Emmaus relies on a method which is more consistent with the message of the Walk   .   .   .   Sponsorship. The personal character of sponsorship underlines the personal care and commitment of God to each Pilgrim. The fact that the Emmaus experience is passed on from person to person reflects the relational nature of God and the manner in which God reaches out to people through other people. Sponsorship is integral to some of the unique features and strengths of the Emmaus experience   .   .   .   a discerning approach to recruitment, personal agape and prayer for the pilgrims, sponsor’s presence at Candlelights and Closings, and throughout the Fourth Day.
Sponsorship is an important reason why Emmaus Walks are rarely cancelled for lack of participants. Emmaus Pilgrims want to share the gift of those three days they experienced with others. God’s gift of grace continues to be passed on through the Emmaus Movement weekend after weekend. Sponsors help make Emmaus an act of “sacrificial love” from beginning to end   .   .   .   something more than the usual retreat or religious educational function.
When sponsorship is taken for granted it is assumed everyone knows the how and why of Sponsorship. Again it is the most important job in any Emmaus community. It is far more than simply “signing people up.” The importance of our community being educated on the importance of good and responsible sponsorship cannot be over emphasized. The quality of sponsorship influences the Pilgrim, the health of the Emmaus Movement, and the local churches.
Good sponsorship is the foundation for a healthy, effective Emmaus Movement that is fulfilling its true purpose   .   .   .   the development of Christian leaders and the renewal of the church in ministry. Sponsorship is like being a godparent. The responsibility of the godparent isn’t just to stand with a person in front of the church but to see them grow in the spiritual life, to offer help and guidance throughout their entire life.
Sponsorship is an act of love for God, for the Pilgrims, for the Emmaus Community, and for the Church. It is an outward and demonstrative act of pure Agape love. It is making oneself an instrument of prevenient grace. It’s far more than writing a letter and stroking a check.
