AE Community:

What a blessing it has been to see God at work in our Community. There was a very large crowd of new Pilgrims at the DoDU on Saturday learning about Sponsoring, Teaming and the many opportunities there are to be servants for God to our area through the Emmaus movement. Our thanks to Faye Banner for her service and leadership in heading up the DoDU.

It is the AE Board’s pleasure to announce to the Community the Lay Directors for our fall 2008 and spring 2009 walks. They are:
Men: Women:
AE-78 – Tommy Jones (Fall 2008)
AE-81 – Kenny Pekrun (Spring 2009)
AE -79 – Elaine Hughes (Fall 2008)
AE-80 – Jennifer Gamiel (Jan. 2009)
AE-82 – Jessica Lynam (Spring 2009)

I extend a special “Thank You” to each of these leaders for their willingness to serve and I ask that the entire Community begin praying for these leaders now and the walks they will be leading during the coming year.

Please begin immediately recruiting Pilgrims for these fall walks. I believe everyone in this Community has someone’s name in their heart they want to sponsor; it is time to reach out to that special friend!

And don't miss our Gathering & Board Elections May 10th at Plymouth Church of Christ. We have a ballot below which you may complete beforehand and bring with you to the May gathering, or mail it to arrive before May 3rd. Hope to see you there.

    DeColores!

Continue to pray for the Albemarle Chrysalis Board and a possible summer Chrysalis Flight the weekend of July 17 — 20. However, do not stop with prayer . . . we need to take action. The Board is still considering the possibility of a summer Flight but in order for a Flight to take place there must be enough Team & Caterpillar applications submitted to justify a flight.
butterfly     Time is running out to complete the necessary logistical details. The Board asks that you PRAY about this event and submit your applications. We will have more information at our May Gathering in Plymouth. butterfly

Praising the Lord

AE77 Lay Director Comments:

Praise the Lord for our God showing up and showing off for the Team and Pilgrims of AE 77! We were truly blessed as the Lord did for us just as He had promised through His word in Isaiah 43:18-21 … “Forget about the former things: do not dwell on the past. For I am about to do a ‘brand-new’ thing! See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness for my people to come home. I will create rivers for them in the desert!...Yes, I will make springs in the desert, so that my chosen people can be refreshed. This people I formed for myself; they shall declare my praise!’
AE 77 Logo
I thank God for the servants He called together to serve and their willingness to Praise the Lord and allow Him to work through them. “He can work through those who Praise Him … Praise the Lord!” The pilgrims were so ready to join in to praise our Lord and I believe He honored their praise and the enemy was defeated! The Lord met them at their place of need and God’s people were blessed!
Thank you all for your prayers and support throughout the weekend! I truly believe our Emmaus Community once again touched the heart of God by ministering to His people in love.
Be blessed and remember … He can work through those who praise Him, so Praise the Lord!

    Love you all!

The Lord’s Work on Bertie Kairos #1

Getting out of the box . . . leads to out of this world.

That is how the team of Bertie Kairos #1 felt as God showed up to once again to prove that He is in these weekends!

The prison welcomed us with open arms and God's awesome power was evident as men surrendered to our Lord Jesus The Christ. Gang members renounced their affiliations, Christians renewed their relationships with God, and lost sheep came home.

When all is said and done, we hand it to God and ask Him to bless the meager efforts we have made, and amazingly, He does.

Stepping out in faith means that Kairos will be in Bertie Correctional until His return, and that is good. Kairos brings hope, a hope for new life and eternity, and a very present hope for every day life.

The family (church) of God is strengthened, and men can try to live in harmony and peace.

We wish to thank everyone who assisted us in holding Kairos #1 in Bertie, and ask you to continue to pray for us.

Thank you and God bless you.
              Rod Mumma/Tony Hughes

Kairos Fish                        Cookies for Kairos PCI-17
Kairos helps build strong Christian communities inside prison walls. Cookies are just one form of Agape used during a Kairos weekend and PCI-17 needs 2,000 dozen Chocolate Chip Cookies. PCI-17 still needs your cookies. A group will be baking cookies starting about 4pm at Edenton UMC on Tuesday, April 29th and anyone wishing to help is welcome to join in. Cookie guidelines have been printed in previous newsletters. You can bring your Agape Cookies to Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church, 1308 School House Rd, Elizabeth City, NC, on Thursday, May 1st. The school is on the north side of US 158 just west of South Mills

If you cannot make it to the school with your cookies, you can give them to one of the PCI-17 team members listed below. And please pray for team and participants starting today.

A Few Last Minute Reminders
Let's take time to be courteous and remember to turn off cell phones and pagers, or at least switch them to silent mode, when attending Gatherings.   If you have not seen someone from your table at a Gathering lately, give them a call.   A single clap is all that's needed on introductions, generally after a coordinated “WE – LOVE – YOU!“   And, our Gatherings do not end with the prayer following communion. After communion we sing “All in All” (on page 5 in the AE Song Book) followed by the Chrysalis Cheer.   Then we all pitch in to help clean up behind ourselves so the church is ready for morning worship services when we leave. Have you noticed that dozen people can do in a few minutes the same job that can take two people several hours to do?

If you are one of the many community members receiving this newsletter by Snail Mail and are able view and print from the Albemarle Emmaus web site then consider saving Albemarle Emmaus time and money by having your name removed from our paper mailing list. To get off the paper mail list send your editor Philip S. Ruckle Jr. an E-mail message and request that your Snail Mail copy be cancelled. If you are not already on our E-mail Update List it’s no trouble to add you for notice of when the newsletter and other important messages have been added to the AE web site.
