Identity Theft Alert:
Don’t Let Your IRS Stimulus Payment
Leave you Open to Identity Theft
Avoid Becoming a Victim of Identity
Theft, Phishing Scams, and Fraud
The Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Department
of Justice are warning consumers about e-mails and
phone calls from scammers claiming to be from the
Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the
Social Security Administration.
The IRS does not gather information for
tax refunds, rebates, or stimulus payments by
telephone. Nor does it send unsolicited e-mail
to taxpayers about tax account matters. Filing
a tax return is the only way to apply for a tax
refund; there is no separate application form.
Similarly, if you get an e-mail out of the
blue from someone claiming to be from the IRS
that asks you to call a phone number or e-mail
back your personal information, don't click
on any links. Forward it to phishing@irs.gov,
and then delete it. Clicking on a link in an
unsolicited e-mail carries risks of
spyware, pagejacking, and phishing—threats
that can lead to the theft of your identity.
The only official IRS Web site is located at irs.gov.

Subject: Fw: Urgent Prayer Request from Emmaus of the Rockies
----- Original Message -----
From: Don Alan Mo Frederick

Subject: Urgent Prayer Request from Emmaus of the Rockies
We would like to seek our brother's and sister's prayer
support for our upcoming Walks. Our men's walk is scheduled
for June 19 - 22 and we only have one pilgrim signed up.
Our Women's Walk is scheduled for June 26-29 and we only
have 2 pilgrims signed up. Both walks are suffering from
a lack of people to support the walks.
We haven't done summer walks in a long time and we planned
them so that "seasonal" employees like teachers could sign up.
Our prayer is that we acknowledge and abide by God's
will on this subject, not our own.
Thank you for your prayers...please pass them
along to the members of your community.

Team & Sponsor Requirement
Anyone that wants to team or sponsor
someone on an Emmaus Weekend must attend a Day of Deeper Understanding,
often called a DoDU, prior to the deadline team applications are due .
. . . not just prior to Teaming beginning.
A commitment to team begins with prayer, is covered
in prayer, and guided in prayer. Deadlines are in place as a commitment
to God - that we the team are committed long before the actual walk.
If you have never teamed, you should know that it
is an awesome experience. Being part of an Emmaus Weekend team is a
chance to be on the giving end of what you received so fully on your
own weekend. It's a time to bond with others in Christ with a common
goal and take time to focus on serving Christ instead of each other, or
ourselves.
Our next Emmaus Day of Deeper Understanding is
April 12, giving everyone ample time to meet the Spring Walk teaming
deadline. God can use you if you are willing to be used! IT
IS AWESOME!

The Skinny on Team Selections
From Scoofer Jordan
One of the most misunderstood topics in Emmaus is Team Selection. This subject is well
covered in the Handbook beginning on page 21, but as usual, there are underlying principles
between the lines that may just make more sense than written rhetoric.
First of all, good intentional team selection builds leadership, not only in the Emmaus
community but more importantly, in the church. The principle of “Progression of Servanthood”
has a very distinct method to its madness. Remember, we don’t earn the right to progress in
Emmaus, we learn it. Serving behind-the-scenes first, then entering the conference room at the
table community slowly at first, helps us all to understand the dynamics of listening as well as the
sharing of ideas
Second, you can’t develop leadership of a community unless the community has a chance to
serve in this progressive way. We have literally hundreds of community members who have
never served in the conference room, many of whom deserve the opportunity to do so. This is the
reason Team Selection MUST wisely use the experience information supplied by the registrar (or
whoever keeps the experience records) and make its decisions for teaming with the health of the
community in mind.
Third, the recycling of the same folks through the conference room does absolutely nothing
for those who desire to serve there but never get called. The recycling of past leaders and other
frequent team members will quench the spirit of servants willing to serve but never asked. Please
do not rob willing servants the chance to give of themselves!
Fourth, the community should own the community. The Board provides governance and
leadership; the team guides the pilgrims on a weekend; but the community must own itself in
order to support and maintain a healthy spirit level. The original reason for three year Board
terms was to provide more opportunity to the community members to serve and prevent a few
from holding too much control over the community.
Lastly, the Team Selection Committee is composed of only two Board members: the chair of
the Team Selection Committee and the Community Spiritual Director. The rest of the committee
is made up of the chosen walk Lay Directors and as many community members at large as
deemed necessary to adequately represent the community in the wise selection of team members.
Remember! Walk Lay Directors do not choose their own teams! They simply call the persons
Team Selection has chosen until they achieve the team God has selected. Walk Lay Directors do
not choose their Walk Spiritual Directors. These two leadership positions are always Board
chosen at the same Board meeting. Walk Lay Directors are not charged with the responsibility of
selecting the Support Coordinator, the Board Representative, or any of the Support Servants who
work behind-the-scenes. This, too, is the work of the Board. Board members should not perform
all the behind-the-scenes functions themselves but ask community members at large to do them---
-again so the community will have ownership of the community as well as having the opportunity
for personal sacrifice.
The more community people we involve in the walks, the healthier the community will be,
and I’ll bet you will be surprised at how much easier it will be to get volunteers for your needs in
the future
Try it, you’ll like it!!!
Emmaus is an effective tool
Emmaus is an effective tool
People’s behavior often changes as a result of participation
in an Emmaus Walk, especially when the walk is followed by
participation in a Reunion Group. Pilgrims show evidence of a greater
commitment to the devotional life and the regular practice of spiritual
discipline when involved in fellowship and tend to have a deep level of
caring which is expressed, in turn at church, at home and work. A
desire to share love often takes the form of new commitments to
charitable work in the community or deeper more committed work in the
church. Emmaus is not what causes this change but is a tool the Holy
Spirit uses as a stimulus.
Persons from different denominations discover a sense of unity in
Christ. Pilgrims increase in appreciation and desire for Holy Communion
as well. Among the most heartening effects of Emmaus is the
re engagement of men in the life of the church and family.
Good Sponsorship is Vital to Emmaus
While most church related functions take a “Y’all
come!” approach to participation, Emmaus relies on a method
which is more consistent with the message of the Walk...Sponsorship.
The personal character of sponsorship underlines the personal care and
commitment of God to each Pilgrim. The fact that the Emmaus experience
is passed on from person to person reflects the relational nature of
God and the manner in which God reaches out to people through other
people. Sponsorship is integral to some of the unique features and
strengths of the Emmaus experience...a discerning approach to
recruitment, personal agape and prayer for the pilgrims,
sponsor’s presence at Candlelights and Closings, Mananitas
and throughout the Fourth Day.
Sponsorship is an important reason why Emmaus Walks are rarely
canceled for lack of participants. Emmaus Pilgrims want to share the
gift of those three days they experienced with others. God’s
gift of grace continues to be passed on through the Emmaus Movement
weekend after weekend. Sponsors help make Emmaus an act of
“sacrificial love” from beginning to
end...something more than the usual retreat or religious educational
function.
Sponsorship is taken for granted in some communities; it is assumed
everyone know the how and why of Sponsorship. Again it is the most
important job in any Emmaus community. It is far more than simply
“signing people up.” The importance of our
community being educated on the importance of good and responsible
sponsorship cannot be overemphasized. The quality of sponsorship
influences the Pilgrim, the health of the Emmaus Movement, and the
local churches.
Good sponsorship is the foundation for a healthy, effective Emmaus
Movement that is fulfilling its true purpose...the development of
Christian leaders and the renewal of the church in ministry. Bob Wood
writes in DAY FOUR: THE PILGRIM’ S CONTINUED JOURNEY;
The strength of any Emmaus Community is a direct result of that
community’s recruiting practices. If the community is
committed to recruiting strong church leaders for the purpose of
strengthening the local church, then the community will be a strong
vital force in the renewal movement.
Sponsorship is like being a godparent. The responsibility of the
godparent isn’t just to stand with a person in front of the
church but to see them grow in the spiritual life, to offer help and
guidance throughout their entire life.
Sponsorship is an act of love for God, for the Pilgrims, for the Emmaus
Community, and for the Church. It is an outward and demonstrative act
of pure Agape love. It is making oneself an instrument of prevenient
grace. It’ s far more than writing a letter and stroking a
check.
A cowboy got off his horse because an Indian was lying in his path, with
one ear resting on the ground.
One wagon, the Indian muttered, with six horses and four men.
Amazing, the cowboy said. Even with me being so much closer, you
cantell about the other riders by putting your ear to the ground?
No, the Indian moaned. They ran me over.
A fire started in the grasslands close to a farm. The county fire
department rushed to the scene, but the fire was more than they could
handle.
Someone suggested calling the volunteer fire department. Despite some
doubt that they would be of any assistance, they were called.
The volunteers arrived in a dilapidated old fire truck. They rumbled
straight towards the fire, drove right into the middle of the flames
and stopped! The firefighters jumped from the truck and frantically
started spraying water in all directions.
Soon they had snuffed out the centre of the fire and leaving two parts
which were easily put out.
As the farmer watched all this, he was impressed and grateful that his
house and farm had been spared. He quickly got his checkbook and
donated $1000 to the volunteer fire department.
A local news reporter asked the volunteer fire captain how they planned
to use the funds.
The captain replied, "The first thing we're gonna do is get the brakes
on our fire truck fixed!"

AGAPE LETTERS
AGAPE LETTERS.....
Please remember that Agape servants put only 12-15 Personal letters in
the cloth Agape Bags ...... in order to insure that the Pilgrim gets
those most special letters please do NOT put a "P" in the upper right
corner unless the Sponsor asks you to.
The Pilgrim will still get your letter - it just will be at a different
time. We are sure you would want to receive letters from your "most
special people" if this were you and that you would still loveto hear
from everyone else as well.
We do realize this is a bit different than it has been and we are all
very reluctant to change; but please, make a conscious effortwhen doing
agape to follow this simple but important change.

Chrysalis does not exist primarily for the weekend events. Its purposes
are to deepen the faith of individual young people, to increase the
faith of congregations, and to bring Christianity to the world.
Chrysalis gives participants the skills needed for leadership and
invites them to make the commitment needed to build up the church for
the sake of Jesus Christ. The questions asked at the closing - "What
has this weekend meant to you?" and "What are you going to do with it?"
-- help participants begin to comprehend the kind of servant leadership
that God may require of them in the future.
What happens after your Flight or Journey has ended?
Chrysalis supports young people's return to the world as butterflies by
encouraging and strengthening their local church and youth group
connections. Chrysalis also provides follow-up through Next Step Groups
and "Hoots." "Hoots" are larger, less frequent, gatherings of all of
the young people and adults in an area who have participated in
Chrysalis for the purpose of renewing relationships, rekindling the
fire of faith, and planning to support upcoming Chrysalis weekends.
Next Step Groups are small groups of young people who have been on a
Chrysalis Flight or Journey. The groups are designed to keep the spirit
of the Chrysalis weekend alive and staying in relationship to help one
another live in the light of God's love as disciples of Jesus Christ.
At the end of a Chrysalis weekend, participants are broken into groups
by churches, schools, or towns. In some communities, young people
divide themselves into groups by regular times and days when they would
be able to meet.
After the Chrysalis experience is over, Next Steps groups meet
regularly to participate in a time of sharing based on the Next Steps
Card (a card received during the Chrysalis weekend).
"Hoots" are larger, less frequent, gatherings of all of the young
people and adults in an area who have participated in Chrysalis for the
purpose of renewing relationships, rekindling the fire of faith, and
planning to support upcoming Chrysalis weekends.

Emmaus is committed to Follow-up
One of the most common criticisms of religious retreats and revivals is
inadequate follow-up. Emmaus is designed from the outset to be more
than a three day event; it includes follow-up fellowship opportunities
aimed at supporting people's discipleship in the world. Emmaus not only
takes persons to the Mountaintop but helps them return to everyday life
and live as disciples through covenant groups for mutual support and
accountability. Through Gatherings, Renunion groups and teaming, the
goal of Emmaus is it give persons the means to persevere in grace for
the rest of their lives.

A Few Last Minute Reminders
Let's take time to be courteous and remember to turn off cell phones and pagers, or at least switch them to silent mode, when attending Gatherings.
If you have not seen someone from your table at a Gathering lately, give them a call.
A single clap is all that's needed on introductions, generally after a coordinated “WE – LOVE – YOU!“
And, our Gatherings do not end with the prayer following communion. After communion we sing “All in All” (on page 5 in the AE Song Book) followed by the Chrysalis Cheer.
Then we all pitch in to help clean up behind ourselves so the church is ready for morning worship services when we leave. Have you noticed that dozen people can do in a few minutes the same job that can take two people several hours to do?
